My buddy and I planning a road trip to Kansas City the weekend of the 20th (and will hit the event that 'Balls is putting on with Jorge on Saturday).

However, being that neither of us know a lick about KS, any suggestions as to what part of town to stay and any good drinking establishments to visit while we're there? Since we will be consuming (probably a good bit) of beverages each night, we were thinking of staying in the Country Club Plaza area to avoid cab rides (that is, if that's the best place to hit bars/pubs in the evening). I don't know much about Country Club Plaza, I just heard it was a pretty cool area which is why we were thinking of staying there. Perhaps there is an even better place to stay. We really don't care too much about our hotel/room since we don't plan on spending much time there, but a good location would be nice. ;)

As far as bars, we're just looking for some fun places to hang out that don't get too crowded (and we're not really into big dance clubs anymore - there once was a day). We would rather not spend all of our loot on hotel and drinks at bars, so any cost effective solutions/suggestions would be greatly appreciated (that way we will have more $$$ to spend on cigars!).

Go to the titty bars on the Kansas side..... :)

F' That! Your going to be stuck once you get the Outlaw anyway! I think between a few of us we can get you good and smashed! And as far as a great place to smoke look no further than our lounge. I have the best Tanning Salon in KC right next door. We have a hard time getting anything done on a good day!

Last month my wife and I stayed just north of the Outlaw near Zona Rosa. Zona Rosa is a shopping center that has some very good restaurants and a couple of nice bars. We stayed at the Motel 6, a 3 minute walk to the shopping center (if you catch the light correctly, if not it's a several minute wait to cross the street).

The motel isn't the greatest, but it's not like we we were in the room for long.

I am planning on doing the same again for the Padron event.

Look forward to seeing you there!

Not a bad idea really as im sure a herf could be had at Granite City the night before. If you're looking for a cost effective place around some bars and other stuff id take Allens advice and just hang out there.

Im glad to see you'll be joining us for this event and i cant wait. Gonna be a good day tater!

I can't wait to see how many CPer's we get on the 20th! It'll be great to have some faces to go with those names! Can't wait to meet you guys!

I got stuck in a place called Bazookas one night... is that ballet still around??

I'm all for that - I was just thinking that I wouldn't want to over-extend my welcome. Now you asked for it. Cigars and beer are two things I rarely turn down. It might take a forklift now to remove my ass from one of your seats.

As for smoking - do you think I'd come to KC and buy or smoke anywhere else besides your pad? Come on now 'Balls - I think you've taken too many hits to the head in that war of yours.

Since we're coming in on Friday, we will be looking for some places to go out and have some beers. Is there a good spot besides what Gandolf suggested that has a nice collection of bars? What would you guys recommend? We might end up staying at the same place, Gandolf, but just want to survey what else is available first. By the way, Drew - what is Granite City?

Granite City is a bar/pub in Zona Rosa....I know that OpusXKC goes there on occasion. Also you could always stay at one of the casinos. Ameristar has a great bar inside it called Amerisports that is fun to drink and smoke at. Zona Rosa is closer to outlaw though.

Besdides those two places, there is the Plaza that has lots of places to stay and go party at. Tom Fooleries, The Grand Falloon, Diebels are all on the Plaza. I would still say however that Zona Rosa would be best for cost/location/recreational activites.

Thanks, Drew! Zona Rosa is looking good but mention of a casino, hmmmmm....

How are the casinos in KC? Is Ameristar the one you would recommend if we were to stay in one?

There is also a Tomfooleries in Zona Rosa and a Granfaloon across the hiway. As for casinos, my opinion is that Ameristar is the best -- has a nice sports pub and other good resturants.

Amerstar has good restauaunts and Amerisports(the sports pub) which is also a microbrewery. I would say if you didn't choose Zona Rosa, Amerisports would be your next best bet. It's a bit further trip to Outlaw but isn't all that far away. Your choice, personally id say Zona Rosa still.

I'm heading down on the 19th and staying till the 21st, on of my best friends lives there and I have to hit Outlaw for the Padron event. I think on the 20th we are gonna hit the Grand Falloon and to sit in the rooftop bar and smoke. Gonna be a good time.

Is the Zona Rosa area (pubs/bars) fairly lively on the weekend? Although I don't really want a crowded bar scene, it would be fun to have a little action rather than something fairly subdued.

Before moving to podunckville, I used to live in Atlanta where there is Buckhead and Virginia Highlands, both being bar/restaurant districts with a ton to do. Is there a place like that in KC that you guys would recommend?

We're entertaining the idea of scrapping the KC ball game and doing something else Friday night (possibly at the casino or out at some bars).

Zona Rosa will get you that and if not there is the Boardwalk across 29, which has a houlihans in it and across the street from that there is a hooters and movie theater and shiot like that and yes Granite City is a microbrewery too. Tom Fooleries/Granite City/Grand Faloon is always crazy on the weekends and whatnot so you shouldnt have any trouble with a bar scene around the Zona Rosa Area.

PS-SCREW THE ROYALS!

OK the suggestion of staying at the Motel6 and doing most of your partying/herfing at Zona Rosa is the way I would go.
Along with all the above mentioned reasons, it's about 3 minutes away from the Outlaw. If I remember right the Motel6 gets about $35 anight. Very reasonable.

If you must go to a casino they arent that far from Outlaw.
I'm gonna PM you with a link to google maps so you can see for yourself.

Thanks guys - I think I'm sold on Zona Rosa. However, I might do a slight upgrade on the hotel ;)

See all of you boys on the 20th.
