Yeah, I'll be up there before the CP Herf in May, we can hook up then if the ban isn't in place yet! If it is I'm sure we can herf on the steps of the capital building since it is outdoors!

Sounds like a plan!

Still has to pass the legislature, right?

Colorado's bill made it through committee with B&Ms exempted. The floor is also exempting casinos, bingo halls, and bars that do not have a full menu of food. Looks like its going to pass.

They wouldn't dare try to touch fraternal orgs. Just hit me - how bout we form the F.O.T.L?

Wow, the Mormon-taliban didn't step on the rights of the minority in that state like they do on just about every other issue. :0 :0 :0 :0 I'm floored.....just in shock.

I know from personal experience there are places in NYC that are choosing to selectively enforce it. At a bar in the upper eastside you can go after 12:30 and little cups of water are delivered by the bartender/watress so you can smoke and ash. It is their practice to do this.

i live in upstae NY.

was in a bar about a month ago and saw ashtrays on the bar.

me: "i thought smoking was banned in bars"

guy sitting at bar: "um, yeah"

me: "but there are ashtrays"

guy: "yeah, nobody gives a shit"

me: "cool. what do you think would happen if i brought in a cigar?"

guy: "you'd probably have a lot of pissed off people"

me: "oh."

before the ban, i read that certain bars put up a 'smoking ban jar' that they put money in. the owners figured that if people keep putting money in it, they will be OK if they get fined...they'll just use the money to pay the fines.

It passed. The article was written just before it did. Of course the guvna could veto :sign:

Lived in SLC from Dec 1988 to Sept 1994 and it was the longest part of my life. My escape from that prison came when my brother visited us in Utah and says hey bro...move back to nebraska. i was like nah...too much stuff here that I would have to take care of. Needless to say, I packed every thing I owned, quit U of U, closed my bank account, paid my bills off, and quit my job all in 8 hours. I havent looked back since. Best thing I ever did. :) Pretty state...just some wacked laws there.

I'm still is shock they even have "membership" bars in Utah.

interesting, so this means, private clubs include the Legion, so some smoke cop has to say to a WWII vet, "thank you for fighting for our country, now please put out your cigarette, this is private property" ???

That's right, also will happen on April 15, 2006 in New Jersey. I will not be able to smoke in the VFW or the American Legion. I guess I did my part to preserve my individual rights!

I was just in SLC a few weeks ago - there was no smoking in the city, as far as I could tell.... And on the news they talked about outlawing tobacco altogether throughout Utah... That's friggen crazy....

Sorry to see you in that mess, Craig - I'd be more than happy to help you relocate to Illinois - they're banning smoking in restaurants and bars in many places, but some clubs and cigar shops still are a great place to go and light up...
