That is an awesome idea! Where the heck do you get that program?!

hey all...
got a few PM's about this... here's the link.

works slick as hell, but only as fast as your upload speed! I also setup a filter that keeps it from showing in the inbox, but it's still accessible from the drive letter.

Enjoy!

Lets see here...2+ gigs per account, plus about 100 invites....

Man, im never gonna need hard drive space again!!

Why on earth would anyone use Gmail when you can host your own exchange server and offer you BOTL free unlimited use outlook accounts!

You might want to keep this in mind before you back your entire hard drive up on GMail ;)

Ahh, I remember the initial paranoia about Gmail - such sweet memories <sniff>

:p

The Register of course being a web based tabloid for the most part (although they do keep up with new tech fairly well, they are still very biased in anything they report), the real thing to worry about is that Gmail is still beta, and they have the right to wipe out their servers and 'lose' your stored files/emails anytime they choose.

That being said, the Gmail Drive program is awesome for transferring files to different locations (work computer to home, etc), synchronizing files, etc. - especially with the explorer interface.

Is this still a problem? Or was it really ever a problem? I've heard mixed opinions about this. Does anyone know if this is true?

Well, let's put it this way. Google is planning on making money from GMail... that may mean tracking your interests via indexing your email, much in the way your shopping habits are tracked by those little discount grocery cards.

That may mean targeted ads... It may mean a lot of things. I'm not saying don't use GMail... I use it and like it... I'm just saying, keep in mind that you're using someone else's storage space, and they do retain and index everything you put up there.

As long as you know this and are comfortable with this, there are no problems. I personally wouldn't use it for anything sensitive.

Not really 2 main reasons I have about 500gb total and can easily add space as needed and 2 I set a policy that makes e-mail expire after 6 months. If users want to keep all their e-mail they would simply save them to their own computer using a pst file through outlook.

I just use Firefox - have never even seen the Google Ads on the webmail interface thanks to Greesemonkey :)

Ditto on FIREFOX - Not to mention, you can set up any of your GMAIL accounts as a standard secure POP3 account and use OUTLOOK or whatever POP3 program that trips your trigger. And there is no ads, no logins etc...
