Hi everyone! I need some advices on buying golf equipment. My friend's birthday is coming soon and he is going to take a golf course at college. I would like to buy him a "club" (maybe not the correct term, haha!). Could you guys please give me some suggestions? Thank you very much!

Isaac :)

If he is a serious golfer he may be particular about his equipment. Some other ideas that would work are nice golf balls, golf towels, hats, etc. If you check out a local shop they will have plenty to chose from. If you are set on getting a "club" I would go with a quality putter. Good luck.

There are many many many many many many different clubs you could buy. Probably your best bet is going with a hybrid club to replace his 2 or 3 iron.

He is new to golf and i think he is doing to practice driving range.

Quality golf clubs could be very expensive perhaps buying a used set on eBay or your local shop could work. my friend just recently bought a set of big bertha drivers and Callaway irons for 300 which were from 02 which is a pretty good deal. You could always get cheaper brands such as knight and Wilson.

Btw did anyone see the Michael Jordan charity golf tourny on espn2. what was mj smoking i think it was a cohiba but not sure what kind after that.

ditto, best club in the bag

Well if he is still in the market for clubs he shoudl check out pinemeadowgolf.com. Its got great cloned clubs of the major brands for pretty cheap and complete with the hybrid clubs...just my $.02!

get him a hybrid - to either replace the 3 or 4 or 5 iron - all the pros are carrying at least one of these clubs - it will help him much more than any expensive driver will - my $ .02

You could get him a nice, fat Big Bertha Driver. Check ebay, but buy new.

A driver while fun to whack the ball with is probably the most difficult club to hit. Most golf experts suggest that high handicapped (suckier players like me :sign: ) golfers remove the driver from their bag all together. SO go with a three-wood, a hybrid or probably the best choice - a gift certificate to a pro shop. With the gift certificate he can pick out what he wants to try or needs... If you buy him a specific club he may blame you everytime he hits a crappy shot with it! :p

Good luck!

Isaac, Rob nailed it gift certificate, can't go wrong.

Gift certificate is the best way to go. If you really need to get him a club, get him a hybrid. Easiest club to hit in my bag for all types of situations on the course. Plenty of discount golf stores online too. Good luck!

It is really hard to buy a club for someone else IMHO. Gift Certificate is a great idea, but I also agree that a hybrid club is the hot thing now. Perhaps one of those practice devices, like the medicus, it's been aroung for a long time and is available on e-bay and other auction sites for less than new price. I also agree with those who said buy used clubs, for the most part other than drivers, used clubs are the way to go especially for the new golfer, higher quality clubs for the same price as new lower quality clubs....

Short game, short game, short game.

Putting and chipping. Don't fall for one of the gimicky chippers ala Alien wedge etc, there is no replacement for practice.

If he already has a set of clubs you get a decent wedge or putter for that amount.

Man you a one fart smeller......I mean't smart feller. I would rather have the Gift Certificate too. :whistling: :D

I tend to agree with everyone else buying clubs for any individual is very difficult no matter what level they are. The hybrids are the hot fad right now but if you really want to get him something that will go a long way buy a range card for him at his local driving range. That phrase practice practice practice is so true and after more practice.

My buddy bought an Alien wedge, mis-hit it twice before he sold it on Ebay.
I keep telling him it's not the club, but the shooter...
