I'm looking to purchase a set of clubs within the next few months and hit the driving range to hopefully start golfing a lot next summer. Here's my questions.

-What online golf sales sites do you buy from?

-Are there any golf forums that you are members of and would recommend?

Any help anyone could provide on this would greatly be appreciated. I figured that since Tiger is doing so bad, that maybe I could take it up and start doing Nike commercials too :sign: I'm going to visit a used sporting goods store tomorrow and look at two club sets that they have, I just want to really look around and see what's out there. I've noticed that Wal-Mart has a putting green set-up for roughly $30.00 that might be fun to play around with in the winter time. Other than that, not much impresses me with wally-world.

Here's a site I use, they have great prices on preowned clubs too, in great shape, and most have the picture of the actual club on the website. They have a stores here in Houston and all over the South East US. Very good people to do business with. :)

IMO if your just getting into golf...or back into it, stay local with your purchase. Most important thing is find a place that can "fit" you for clubs. Then buy a set in your price range. The clubs fitting properly is the most important thing. Price is relative to your playing and skill, don't spend big money until you know how much you actually play. A $500 driver isn't going to make you a better golfer. I mean, I'm hitting the ball about 30yrds farther with my new stick...unfortantely that's just that much farther I have to truck into the woods to find it. :p But seriously, it's tough to purchase clubs on the net unless you really know what you're looking for. I always compare prices on the net to make sure I'm getting the best deal...and I usually end up getting that deal locally anyway.

As far as forums go. I've never bothered looking. Golf isn't a sport you get better at while talking about it. ;)

Good luck

Take a few lessons and the instructor should lead you down the right path. If you're going to commit, do it right and learn to play correctly. You'll enjoy the game a lot more. :)

I second the motion for getting lessons. If not you will learn bad habits that will be damn near impossible (and more expensive) to break later.

As for clubs, I wouldn't recommend spending too much now. This place Low Pro Golf took really good care of me on my irons. I got my irons custom fit (a little shorter) with a really good shaft for around $200. They play just as well as my buddy's Callaway Big Berthas he got off the rack. If I ever get into the low 80's consistently then I will consider buying name brand clubs. But right now shooting bogey golf with 80's every now and again, these clubs are fine.

I highly recommend. Their cutsomer service is great. You'll want to talk to them on the phone.

If your starting or getting back into golf do not spend to much for your clubs. As you play more you will get a feel for what you want in a club.
This place has good bargins The Golf Warehouse
Another site with good prices is Giga golf. They give good customer support too

My only recommendation is when you want clubs you can usually get good ones used. I have a set of Pings that I bought used for one year. Beware that those may have been fitted for someone and don't foregt to ask the question about that. Most Pings have a color system that you can use to tell the difference from standard.

After you swing new clubs once they are used and unlike cars there are no moving parts. You can ususally get a better set of clubs this way than buying new for the same price.

Don't let the press fool you - Tiger's not doing bad. In fact, he's still the number 1 ranked player in he world. See here. And he's still #2 on the money list at over 6.6M this year. See here. (and compare the # of events he's played Vs. VS and EE.) If he played the same # of events as them, there's no question that he'd be FAR, FAR ahead of everyone again.

BTW, to answer your question, Here's another good site. and Here's another one.
And finally.....

Thanks for all the advice guys. I'm checking out the edwin watts thing, as well as looking up lesson fees. I might take a golf class again from a college that is nearby in winter time. I joined Golf Rewind and found it to be one heck of a forum. There is even an arcade section where you can play asteroids, Q-bert, Pac-Man and other games if you're bored off your gourd. ;) Now I just need to find those exploding golf balls to use on my brother in law. :D

The golf class I took in college wasn't very in depth. It may or may not help. You should be able to get a package of lessons for $100 or so(4 or 5 half hour lessons) that would be very beneficial. :)

That's last year's money, not 2004

Tiger has made $3.5 million this year. See here
oops - you're right my bad. He's only #4 on the money list. Still not able to consider that BAD.

He may not be playing up to par for his ability (yes, the pun was intended) but anyone saying he's playing bad is a joke (except for the other three above him on the money list.) Except they won't do that because he's still ranked above them. Of course Vijay may have the right to say it after this week, but he won't. He's the last person that would call out Tiger.
