As a newbie to the world of cigars, I have asked, as have countless others, what is a good cigar with a low price tag.

This is a subject that has been posted over and over in countless forums, a search will produce dozens of posts with hundreds of replies on the subject.

What I am attempting to do with this small article is to bring some of the more common responses to this age old question in one place. With that said let us begin.

What is a good value priced cigar? This is a question with many possible responses. It mainly depends on you and what you do and do not like in a cigar. I would suggest that you try a variety of cigars in order to discover what you prefer. That is where this list will help. You can try most of the cigars on this list for under 2 dollars a smoke and many are priced at a dollar or less.

On to the list:

SANCHO PANZA- These are Honduran made gems that are full of flavor for a low cost. Boxes can be found for under 40 dollars if you shop around. You can find mild to full bodied cigars in the Sancho Panza line. The double maduro line is very popular.

CONSUEGRA CIGARS- They are the bundled segundos and production overruns made at the Villazon factory in Honduras - the makers of Punch, Hoyo de Monterrey, Excalibur, El Rey del Mundo, JR Ultimates. Bundles run in price from 22-35 dollars for 25 cigars. These are mainly medium bodied cigars. Best selection and prices I have found so far can be had at JR cigars. Many consider this to be the best bang for the buck in value cigars.

TAMPA SWEETHEARTS- These are apprentice rolled cigars from the Arturo Fuente factory in the Dominican Republic. Selection will vary depending on what the apprentice rollers have been working on. Bundles can be had for 25-36 dollars. http://www.tampasweetheart.com This is another selection that many consider the best value in cigars.

ROSA CUBA- Rosa Cuba is a bundled, mixed-filler sandwich cigar from Nicaraguan American Tobacco S.A. in Esteli, Nicaragua. Medium bodied and priced extremely well. Bundles of 20 can be had for 10-15 dollars depending on where you shop. This bundle seems to have a love-hate relationship with smokers. Either you will like them or not, but for 10 bucks, it will not cost you too much to find out.

FLOR DE OLIVIA- This is the bundle cigar of the Olivia line and can be found for around 35 dollars a bundle. A blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos and a Sumatra wrapper. This value cigar has a large fan club. These cigars are mild to medium in body.

ARTURO FUENTE CURLY HEAD- These are short filler cigars made from the cuttings of the regular A.F. line. The result is great Fuente flavor without breaking the bank. Mild to medium in body and about 50 dollars for a box of 25.

ROCKY PATEL VINTAGE SECONDS- If you like Rocky Patel, but the wife is threatening bodily harm if you order more, here is you salvation. These seconds are rejected for minor cosmetic defects. They have the same tobacco blends as the regular line, but due to the blemishes, they cannot be sold as a R.P Vintage. Bundles of 15 sell for around 45 dollars.

This list is by no means complete. I hope to add to it as time allows, but these should give you a place to start in your search for a good smoke at a great price.

nice topic, let me add some more...

This was taken from CI, I have absolutely no idea how they taste (except for the punch, but i think you all know how punch tastes), how they smoke, the quality nor value, but based on price per stick, i thought these are worth mentioning.

Private Stock - from Davidoff, comes to 2 bucks a stick according to the price.

Perdomo 2 Mistakes - perdomo obviously, comes to a little over 2 bucks a stick.

Punch - Rothschild, not a second, comes to 2 bucks a stick if you buy the 50 count box. I love punch, this is actually the only cigar in the list I have smoked. its a short 4.5x50 though.... but its PUNCH!!!!

Super Premium Seconds - from the Villazon factory (you know what comes out of this place) comes out to a $1.25 per stick.

Astral - The phoenix size cigars come in a box of 25 for 49.95, on sale now (saw it in the hot deals section of this wonderful website), around 2 bucks a stick.

EDITED to add this link - http://www.cigarpass.com/forumsipb/index.php?showtopic=25328

it is a thread way back started by Mark Twaine on good cigars for less than 5 bucks for us "tightwads".

I would add AF 858s and LGC Wavells to the list. A little more expensive (around 90 and 65 dollars per box respectively), but they more than make up for it in quality.

Great subject. Thanks BOTL's!!!!!

My favorite Maria Mancini, full body always have a few boxes on hand very reasonably priced($2 to $2.50 a stick)

I would also like to add:

Magnume Force from JR, a discontinued brand full of flavor at a little over $2 a stick it's a great value.

The Mayorga line is also a flavorfull line with a little age on them at $2.50 a stick.

The Five Star line is a bundled cigar that is mild and flavorfull at a $1.50 a stick.

All of these cigars are available at JR's Link

Another mixed filler cigar that is good and sold at a very reasonable price is La Vieja Habana by Drew Estates.

A favorite of the Dean of my old Law School is the La Floridita sold in bundles at Famous Smoke Shop.

La Floridita

I would also agree with a previous post which suggested the Punch Rothchild. I prefer the Double Maduro (Oscuro) over the others. Great cigar.

Finally, I would also suggest just about anything from the Indian Tabac line made by Rocky Patel. I prefer the Super Fuerte and Cameroon Legend (both in maduro) and the price is right too.

Indian Tabac Cigar Co.

Most of these can be found easily on their websites and occasionally through Cigar Bid or Cigar Auctioneer.

Fuente Sungrown Chateaus, Padron Londres and Ashton ESGs should also be on the list. Great value on all three of those ;)

Huh?

I second the huh?

as far as I know, Ashtons aren't cheap. In fact, to me, they are outrageously over priced.

I was also "Huh?"... but I just guess that ThankYouForNotSmoking mean that these cigars have a good value... which is up to the topic and might be actually true(at least that is his feeling and opinion).
But a threadstarter meant something different... he definitely wanted to start the topic in which he put(and we could add) best bang for the buck, best value for the buck of INEXPENSIVE smokes.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Padron 2000's yet. Natural or Maduro wrapper, they are IMHO one of the best values in cigars. Great out of the box, really special with even a few months of down time on them....

They are definitely a super value - I mean, what else is a man supposed to smoke in his Maybach?

I have a lot of the aforementioned ones and some not. Someone should start another "working man's pass." I'd love to join one!

I'll have to add Victor Sinclairs-Vintage Selects. You can get them for 2.00 a piece. Great daily smoke, better with some age.

Don Thomas cameroon $55/box(cheaper hemingway to me),padron delicias-i've seen a box's for $55.For a lighter smoke, macabi belicoso fino can be had for under 60/box.

I must admit that a few cigars on here are fantastic "bargain" smokes for smoking every day. My tendencies lean towards the 64/26s, the VSG, Puro Sols and Aged Maduros but I can't afford to smoke those every day! I just discovered the AF Curly Heads. What a marvelous smoke for under $3!!

I am going to have to go agree with the Padron 2ks as well as the LGC Wavells. For a few bucks more, the Wavells are really worth it.

Also to add to this list, I would say that anyone who likes their sticks in the Mild-Medium range should definetly be trying the Montesino line. Its a very well constructed stick, has good flavors and can usually be picked up for a bargain. I used to buy these when I preferred the lighter fare as they were so reasonably priced, especially in comparison to Macanudos.

I don't think the Rocky Patel Sungrown Selects were mentioned. At $60 a bundle(about $45 on auction) they are a tasty smoke. Speaking of auctions, I regularly get Indian Tabac Super Fuerte Toro Maduros for $40/box of 25 and it's a cool aging box, too!
