Ok I learned a trick today.

Those of you who are grease monkey's surly have removed cone bearing races. You use a punch and hammer and hammer it out. No big deal right. Well I had a challenge for you. How do you remove a cone bearing race when you can't get behind it to drive it out.

I have a 3 pt hitch post hole digger that has a cone bearing in the top of the gear box.the race is up against the top of the gear box so there is no way to drive it from behind.

Today I learned a trick to removing the race. No contest but before I pass on my trick I would like to hear how you would remove the race.

Sawzall! :sign:

Isn't there a tool that has 3 legs and a threaded rod that you put a wrench on?

Hole saw to the top of the gear box and just a smidge of C4.

I've used a slide hammer with a pivot attachment for this before.

I've also used an acetylene torch to cut a slice in a race on a hub with no access. Came right out with a little finagling, and then just cleaned everything up.....Good to go. Just had to be careful.

Did you freeze and shrink it with some super cool liquid like R-134 Freon maybe?

I know that the tool they make for the Pilot bearings is useful for that!
