I need to connect with a Stevens Arms expert and I'm hoping someone here has a recommendation.

I have a Stevens New Model Pocket Shotgun No.39 (like the one below) which was made by my great-grandfather when he worked at Stevens. I talked at some length with a gentleman many years ago who was recognized as one of the foremost Stevens authorities in the country but I have lost his contact info. He indicated that my great-grandfather may have made this gun for himself making it the only one of it's kind.

I would like to know more about it so I know how to insure it.

If anyone knows where I can start, I would greatly appreciate it.

There’s a Facebook group dedicated to Savage Arms. That might be your best bet to get help. Has over 12k members in the group. I tried to find the contact information for Jay Kimmel who has authored books on Savage Arms collection, but have to see to my clients right now.

Your text 20 minutes ago got me thinking. I have a receipt from a repair the guy did for me 15 years ago. I found it!

His name is Herb Dehart in Littleton Co. and I will call him when Co. wakes up.

I will also check Facebook.
 
I have an old book of gun values, but it's pretty dated now - not sure prices in it would be relevant today, but it's got a lot of other good info. I'll see if it has anything on a No 39 Stevens.

I also have a Stevens .410 side by side, I don't think it's been fired in my lifetime.
 
Looks like they were deemed a Class III weapon in 1934, but exempt as a curio/relic by ATF. Sounds bizarre, something about being a smoothbore pistol. Most auction listings of similar pistols have a "Curio/Relic" tag. Similar info for the similar No. 35

Stevens No. 35 is a .410 bore pistol manufactured by J. Stevens Arms Co., Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. It was available with an 8" or 12.25" smoothbore barrel, for 2.5" shells only. In two variations: Off-Hand Shot Gun (1923 to 1929); and Auto-Shot (1929 to 1934). Total production is unknown...

^ That was a quote from an old post on a message board concerning a quite different Model 39a, but the relevant part is that the No. 39 is subject to stricter laws, namely Class III NFA.

The good thing is that those appear pretty rare and yours looks to be in really nice/complete shape. Thanks for sharing, I didn't even know there was such a thing.
