I’ve noticed over the last few months thay the Habano wrapper makes my mouth create more saliva than other wrappers. I’ve heard people mention this in the past that certain people react differently to different wrappers and binders it I was never able to put my finger on it. Finally today I am walking outside to smoke with this RP Habano wrapper in my mouth and I feel like I have spit running down my face after 30 seconds of it being in my mouth….

Anyone else found that certain wrappers effect them strangely???

So, spit or swallow?

Srsly, though, I've honestly never heard this discussed before, and it's not something I've ever actively paid attention to. I will certainly do so now, whether I intend to or not.

The main thing I could pull up in my limited search was that some people have reactions like this. It’s the body’s chemical reaction to rich or heavy flavors, kind of like a rich or heavy meal. Typically it’s seen in cigars that people really enjoy, they will salivate more (ring a bell). In some cases newer cigar smokers will have this effect with milder cigars until they smoke more cigars and their body becomes accustomed. As for the more advanced smokers, it usually happens for the cigars you expect to enjoy or know will be full/full of flavors

So, it's more of a psychological thing for experienced smokers?

I'm not sure if it was the wrapper or the filler but blunts usually made me react strangely.

That Pavlov was onto something 😂

Yup. Kinda like you salivate more for certain foods you like versus new foods you haven't tried. Or long hotdogs.

Edit: That's not to say you like habano wrappers, just think about the previous sentence and think about sour candy. Just thinking about sour candy sometimes will cause salivation. But yeah, psychological thing for sure.

Interesting you bring this up. I have it going on also, thought my age was doing me dirty. What do I do? If alone, grab it with thumb or finger and wipe it on the blue jeans, or, it just beats me and drips on my tee shirt. In company or at the shop I try and use a napkin or grab it with my tongue and swallow. Kind of a spur of the moment thing. Last of all, pugs drool 🐶

Yep, I’ve not correlated it to a specific wrapper (although I’ll take account of that from now on), but I do find myself experiencing that with cigars that I find particularly tasty. I’m fact, I’ve even slobbered all over the ground on a few occasions when I picked something up from the floor when had a stick in my mouth. I I’ve actually started referring to it as my cigar induced Pavlovian effect.

I’ve also noticed the opposite happening, where my mouth also gets considerably dry, and I have noticed certain wrapper characteristics consistently wicking all the moisture out of my mouth - typically wrappers that I’d describe as seemingly ultra dry, even chalky.

I am a person that in general produces a lot of salvia I think, I have nothing scientific to base that on, other than I spit a lot when outside or swallow when indoors. "Don't be Nasty" In my best Manny accent... I can tell you from my experience, it has absolutely nothing to do with cigars I may like or dislike. I just produce more saliva while I am smoking. I have noticed this early in my cigar smoking and it continues years later regardless of the smoke.

How disappointing. I opened this thread thinking we'd be discussing the many radio hits of Pitbull.

I can definitely see some people have a different chemical reaction. For the life of me I can't smoke CC Monte's because something in their wrapper leaf, or curing process, makes their wrappers horribly bitter to my lips.

Stop
