Van Halen will announce a 50-date American reunion tour with original singer David Lee Roth during a news conference in Hollywood next week, sources said.

The arena trek will begin in early October.

Roth, who split from the rock group in the mid-1980s in hopes of solo stardom, will reunite with co-founders Eddie Van Halen on guitar and brother Alex Van Halen on drums. Eddie's teenage son Wolfgang will sub for Michael Anthony on bass.

A proposed summer amphitheater tour by the group never got off the ground, with Eddie Van Halen entering a rehabilitation facility for undisclosed reasons in March.

In the months since, the guitarist has been seen publicly looking healthy and fit.

Van Halen last toured in 2004, with Roth's replacement, vocalist Sammy Hagar, grossing nearly $40 million, according to Billboard Boxscore.

For me, Van Halen will always mean David Lee Roth on lead vocals. Maybe it's because I was in high school in the late '70s and early '80s but DLR-Halen was the soundtrack of my adolescence. "Van Halen" to "1984"...some damn good memories there, and maybe that's what music is about.

My wife is David's book keeper, so I've been following the tour developments closely as he basically helps pay our bills ;)

I'm glad this is finally getting off the ground!

David was more theatrical but Sammy made better music IMO, of course.

X2......1984 is probably my all time favorite album. (I was only in junior high then)

I'll definitely be catching this tour. This was supposed to happen earlier this year/late last year if I recall, but then was cancelled with no dates ever being set. Hopefully this time it will work, once ol' Diamond Dave takes a respite from his EMT duties. Back in the day...who woulda EVER thought of David Lee Roth as an EMT?

This is not gonna happen...too many ego's at play here, and if it does, it'll last 2-3 dates....Mike Anthony is smarter than he looks, bowing out of this.

I totally agree...I'm partial to Van-Hagar.

I remember many nights that Van Halen was playing while crusing for chicks with my best bud Sam in his van. May Sam RIP. I'll never forget.

I'm not sure I could rebut that...but this kind of music was as much about attitude, style, and way of (adolescent) life as it was about the techno-artistic side. Maybe more. I don't think Hagar could have put the same sultry energy into "Ice Cream Man." DLR was the sweaty, grinding, man-tart that every Catholic highschool boy wanted to be Tawny Kitaen from the Whitesnake video.

Goddamit, when you spend 7 hours a day in a sport coat and clip-on tie, believe me, grinding on Tawny Kitaen or her equivalent is what you dream about. And fantasizing about being a sweaty, grinding, man-tart was not just diverting, it was survival when sitting in front of Sister Mary Bonecrusher for the lesson of the day.

Coulda been a man-tart. Shoulda been a man-tart...at least for a little while. :D

I wasn't sure if you wanted to be a man tart or Tawny, either way I was worried.

Who's talking about Aerosmith? Are we on Aerosmith now? I thought we were still on Tawny Kitaen? ???

Time was not kind to her.

I'd say I'm more a fan of DLR in Van Halen than Hagar. I'm sorry, but the songs rocked with abandon and sexual repression.

Youch. What a shame. Time wasn't the problem...she wasn't kind to herself.

The "hot" Tawny lives on if only in the fantasies of my youth. Vive le Tawny!
