How many of us would make Cuba a vacation spot should the embargo get lifted and it was legal to travel there again? Besides the obvious, why would you go? Personally, my dad spent some time stationed at Gitmo in the early fifties and he always had a twinkle in his eye talking about those times.
 
I'm not certain that it would be any more appealing than say-visiting Nicaragua or Panama. At the same time, if you listen to folklore, Havana was quite a happening place with casinos and Hemingway. If foreign investments poured in and Havana was transformed overnight into a Caribbean Vegas then yes-I would definitely go. At the present time, if I went it would be to see historical sites-Spanish-American war battle-grounds as well as some early settlements. It certainly wouldn't be on the top of my list of things to do. I'd go when I was nearing retirement or if the kids were out of the house-give me eighteen years and then ask me again. :D
 
Too many other places that are more interesting so I doubt I'd visit.
 
The Motherland? Are you kidding me? Of course I would go! I will see the Vuelta Abajo someday. Believe it ;)
 
I'm planning a possible trip later this year. Thats probably all I want to say in a public forum.
 
Considering im only about an hour from Miami, I would be hopping on the first tourist boat or puddle hopper plane quicker then you could say custom rolled salomone :p
 
I'd actually prefer to visit before the embargo is lifted. However, like several others have said, I've got limited travel time, and there are many other places ahead of it on my wish-list.

I'm not even precisely sure why I want to visit - but there is something in the photographs I've seen that makes me want to see Cuba (and specifically: before the embargo is lifted). Here are a few random links:

There are dozens of sites like the ones above... and all of them make me want to see Cuba in person. Even the bad ones (in terms of photography) all cause my interest to pique. Again, I can't put my finger on exactly why - but an interest in seeing something so incredibly surreal is probably the only way I can think to describe it.

I've got mixed feelings about the politics of the whole thing - or even the ethics of visiting (I've got several Cuban friends, and watching them argue amongst themselves about various issues is enough for me - I haven't really formed my own opinion on the matter).

I would go, but mostly for the opportunity to help rebuild that country. It once was THE place to go and I think will be again once Castro is dead and the embargo is lifted. It is like having the opportunity to invest in Vegas as it was being built. Plus I love the carribean!
 
I'd go before or after the embargo is lifted. They already have some world class resorts and the Euros are finding vacations in Cuba to be very nice.

Not that I care for politics, but my time spent in Tampa gave me a love for the Cuban society and a hate for the Castro regime. I hope everyday that eventually the Cuban people will have the chance to enjoy some of the rights and privileges we enjoy in the US. Thus, yes I will go but not before the embargo lifts and the Castro BS is gone. Yes, I'm a hypocrite for buying the cigars, but I still have some ethics...not much but some. Sorry for the long post.
