Yeah "yuck yuck" but the point here is wurm did NOT express his opinion, he made a statement AS FACT that was completely untrue. When he was called on it, he got nasty, defensive, belligerent and negative then started with his flaming which he's noted for.

Fine Bill. But the entire point of my first post on this subject was basically "Who cares?" He's been here, what, 2 months? Do you honestly think anyone cares about his statement about SS? I know I don't. I think a mountain is being made out of a molehill. He made a statement about SS that was completely offbase. Personally, I could care less what he says or thinks about SS - it won't change my opinion of it and I am still looking forward to participating in it. I would hope to think the majority of people here feel the same.

We get enough people around here who truly deserve to be lynched. I don't think Wurm (at least in this instance) is deserving of it.

I could give a shit whether you could "care less" but I do and so do quite a few others. And actually, if some new guys comes along and reads his lies and sees that he has 600+ posts, chances are they'd be inclined to believe it. ANY slander like this is potentially very dangerous and my "problem" with wurm is he sees absolutely nothing wrong with posting lies and slander on this site. Great jim, you "don't care" but I do particularly since I'm running the CP Secret Santa this year. Reckless comments like wurm's may make some new guy in Secret Santa say "Ah, I don't feel like fulfilling my SS obligation this year. After all, I saw a post somewhere that this happens 'alot'."

This is not a "lynching" so please lay off your dramatics  This is a matter of MEMBERS (that's PLURAL) having issues with his lies and his refusal to accept the fact that he's wrong.

wurm is making a "mountain out of a mole hill" (to use your words) by refusing to accept the fact that he's wrong. You know he's wrong, everyone else around here knows he's wrong except for him. He responds with flames and insults.

Jim, I can ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEE that if YOU were the subject of his nastiness, you would be the last person to "just let it go" ;)

As just about everyone here knows, this is a pattern with this guy and if it's allowed to continue with your blessing, it reflects poorly on this site.

I don't have any desire to get the last word in so I'm just going to leave things as they are. Have fun guys...

True- no arguement here. My 'yuck yuck' was more a comment on the arguement regarding opinions- I for one think that opinions are not right OR wrong- they are merely one persons opinion. As long as they are based on the exact same thing- like my opinion that cold weather is better than hot weather- I think others here would say opposite- but who's to say I'm wrong, just because *I* like it cold?

but this only applies when everyone is running off of the same data! ;)

The question was asked,

"What was the problem with Secret Santa? I think I have an idea, just wondering."

Wurm's IMMEDIATE response:

"Alot of receiving and not sending in return..."

I don't see how you could possibly construe that as being an "opinion". It was a statement. I won't disagree it was a very misinformed statement, but it was a statement.

In journalism, when one makes an incorrect statement - a retraction is printed. There's a damn good reason for that. Because a statement, such as what wurm put forward, can damage the reputation of a person, community, process, organization, etc. As in this case, the reputation of the Secret Santa process may suffer because wurm made such a flippant comment. Some have said they have confidence in the secret santa process, while others really don't know what to expect. Certainly, by what wurm put out there, one who is not familiar with the ss process has to wonder if "Alot of receiving and not sending in return..." is what is going to happen this year. Given he has a pretty substantial post count, a person unfamiliar with this board would have to think there must be some credibility to what he said...

wurm's refusal to accept responsibility for such a reckless comment certainly speaks volumes about his character. I'm getting that he could care less what the community thinks. As long as he is satisfied with what he put out there - why should anyone care, or better yet, anyone challenge him on his statement. That's pretty damn dangerous if left unchecked.

So what - it's one comment... Who really cares?

Well, there are an awful lot of people who have invested a great deal in this community. Not posting 600+ times in 2 months, but YEARS of being on this board. Clearly from what you're seeing they DO care. But wurm here thinks these long-term members should be discounted in the interest of his (and others) providing entertainment for the members....

Yeah, right...

Well said George!!

Thank you for summarizing in one post exactly what my "issue" is with wurm on this.

mrjinglesusa has started a thread and wurm has a responsibility to post there and put an end to this.

As far as me "following wurm all over the board" I raised this issue in only two threads that he started (this one and the "Paris Hilton" one) that have nothing to do with cigars so forgive me if I don't feel bad for bringing these useless threads off topic because I honestly don't give a crap. wurm showed no respect to the board with his comment and refusal to address his actions so I showed him an equal amount of respect in "his" threads.

At the time, he left us with no alternatives.

Ok... my bad. I was not referring to Wurm's comments at all- I tried (and failed...) to interject some 'yuck yuck' into the discussion CC and Jingles were having. I mis-read the thread down the line and thought they were arguing that opinions could be right/wrong. Should have kept my mouth shut on that one, but I always liked that saying...

I'll go back to my little snowy corner of the board lick my wounds now...
