My debit card was declined at the grocery store. On payday.

Turns out some asshole somewhere tried to run a $1500 T-Mobile charge on my digits, got blocked by my fraud dept., tried again for $400, got blocked again . . . killed my damn card.

Just a leeeetle bit inconvenient on groceries and booze shopping night!

Didn't this happen to you a year or two ago?

Typically happens at gas station scanners, or if at a restaurant and wait staff takes your card for swiping away from sight.

Good banks will make it right.

Good luck

It's just annoying. Both charges were blocked; the bad guys didn't make off with anything. I'm just going to be without a debit card for a few days or so.

Probably I'll go draw some cash out tomorrow during my conference period so I don't have to write checks. Who even takes checks anymore?

Happen to me last year after a Cape Cod trip. Hit my debit card for a little over $600.00. My Bank made good but, pointed out a interesting thing. They stated that the “card” was most likely compromised months prior. That my card number was sold on a list and they just got around to selling that list with my shit on it. My trip had nothing to do with it. My Bank also told me to cancel my Debit Card twice a year, but definitely once a year. That way if your card gets compromised, by the time they sell the info., you have a new card and that number is no good. My Bank charged me $5.00 for a new number/card. Well worth it.

This happened to my wife a few years back. Her info was posted on a website. She had charges from Montreal, South America and the Middle East.
Most of it was porn but someone in Jerusalem did buy a new refrigerator.
She had to file a police report and the money was returned to her account by her bank. It took a couple of months if I remember correctly.

I had this happen 6 or 7 years ago and it was a complete pain dealing with my bank. I am sure they are better now but it took 2 weeks to get my $ back and caused alot of inconvenience. Since then, I do not have a debit card. I put everything on a CC or pay cash. IMO the Credit card Companies are much better equipped to deal with this. Rather have a credit line frozen than my cash tied up.

I keep my AmEx card for just this reason. Almost never use the debit card for on line transactions. AmEx is all over questionable transactions and IMHO has the best customer service in the industry.

about an hour ago, got a txt from my bank saying that I changed my password, PIN, and login security......but I didn't

someone called in with my spoofed phone number, SSN and the answer to one of my security questions....so far lost some time and 15 cents.
Lucky they tried to use the CC I have for buying my silly shit and there is only $6 in there.....

Card cancelled account locked down, now trying to inform and close loops with other banks.....and I am less than 30 days from closing on my house....what fun!

It's just B&M retailers that have a problem with checks. Except grocery stores and liquor stores, but they have to either know you or have a check cashing account at that store.
My Dad got hit for 23k but Chase covered it.

Agree 100%. A few years back I was at disney and had my amex card compromised. They were awesome, a completely different experience than dealing with my bank.

I've had it happen a couple times and USAA was all over it. The money never even left my account.

One time was for $1500 of beauty supplies. It only sucked because we were down at Disney at the time. Funniest part was when $1500 worth of hair extensions arrived in the mail a few weeks later. They were some horrible thieves. I did return the hair.

I have USAA as well for all my credit cards. I get a text message is the transition is suspicious. If I text it is a valid charge, they don't shut me down.
If its fraud, usually have a new card in a few days.
I don't use my debit card rarely. My experience with bank and checking versus USAA and credit cards is night an day.
