I recently found out that some Cohiba Sublime EL 04's that I have are fake and I think I included one in a pass. I can't for the life of me remember what pass it may have been but if anyone is aware please let me know so I can make it right.

Upon further review, it was in fact the Musical Cheese Pass and it appears that "Charley" was the taker.

I have PM'd Charley and Jeff (Rebel Herfer)

What really pisses me off is that I offered my wife in the thread instead of the Sublime but couldn't figure out how to ship her. She's gone now anyway and instead I passed a fake cigar to a BOTL

Just FYI since I know he would not bring it up.

Jeff even tried to use due diligence and sent several samples to our old former CSI member (name rhymes with Milkey). They were all verified as authentic.

Just goes to show that even the most experienced can be fooled, especially when it comes to these EL cigars.

On that note, I got a half box of H Uphman Mag 50 EL 05's from the same source after it was supposedly verified.

Stepthirteen I do believe I bombed you with one. If there is anyone else out there that knows of me gifting you one of these (I believe I gave away about four or five), please feel free to post here or PM me and I would love to make it right just in case these too are counterfeit.

Ok, "passed a fake" brought a whole different image to mind. If you only sent one to somebody, that ain't so bad. :sign:

John...that fiver you gave me, don't worry about it man.

Just replace one of them

The way I found this proves just how much knowledge of this issue is the key. I had looked these things over with what I thought was extreme care, I obviously didn't know what I was looking for.

I dumped a jar of cigar bands on the table and the light caught the EL band just right and I noticed the 4 in the 2004 was painted over a stamped 3.

Were the cigars you sent to be verified by "sounds like Milkey" adorned with the same bands?

I bought two different times from the same source and I honestly don't remember which I sent to him. When I got home and looked at the remaining 6-7 I have 4-5 were obvious with the same issue and 2-3 were okay. For what that's worth.............

You should be ashamed of yourself for passing a fake.

*Note to self: Don't do any box passes with CigarStone. :whistling:

CigarStone has learned a lesson! I am becoming more and more disenchanted with ISOM's because they involve a lot of BS which is rarely worth it!

I will never put an ISOM in a pass again! Unless of course someone has a brother in law who knows someone who can hook me up :whistling:

Edited to remove the pic and add.....Oops, forgot which forum I was on!

Hey, old guys can pass much worse things than a fake cigar. :sign:
Especially after eating chili!

Boy, that would really be something bad if someone who was being relied on by so many missed that while "CSIing". There are quite a few "verified by _____" sticks out and about.

I don't want to point this at someone who isn't here to defend themselves when in fact, I don't know for sure what I sent to him. This was my fault regardless of what I was told by someone else.

I know. I commend your taking responsibility, I'd expect nothing less from you, Jeff. You're a stand up guy. It always come back to he who passed it, no matter what.

I'm just saying that it would be pretty bad if someone with knowledge and experience that was being mined for 100% authentication in many cases missed something like that. I don't think anyone who is not here needs to defend anything. It just goes to show that relying on the experience of others, no matter their reputation, is not a 100% situation.

Thanks Allan and, yeah.....and it's a damn shame that something as basic as a cigar is counterfeited at such ridiculous levels.

And that's all I meant when I threw it out there...........Wasn't trying to hold someone's feet to the fire when they can't defend themselves. I was just trying to show that no matter how good you think you, or someone else is at spotting fakes, they can still slip into circulation.
No matter what you think of Wilkey, he was VERY GOOD at picking out a fake, but even that is not 100% fool proof.

I sent him one of my MAG 50's and he verified them as authentic (The source in question picked them up from another vendor for Jeff and I). They may very well be the real thing, who knows. I'll still err on the side of caution and never gift another, or put one in a pass though.

Charley got back to me and confirmed that he has the cigar. I am sending him some fake White Owls as a replacement and instructed him to give the EL 04 to his brother in law ;) . AT least the fake White Owls will taste and smoke the same as the legit ones.
