Found out (and bought tix for) last night that he's going to be doing a show locally in early October playing Tull songs with a 14-piece chamber orchestra.

Sounds like an interesting night. Anyone seen/going to see him anywhere this time around?

It's at the Warner in Torrington. Just Ian and the Orchestra is my understanding.

Great old theater that's been beautifully restored in recent years.

Event Info

I saw him in '74, I think, at the Spectrum in Philly. It was around the time of the release of the Living in the Past album. He puts on a hell of a show. He was interviewed on NPR a few days ago. He's quite a character. Says he took up the Flute because it was something Clapton and Hendrix couldn't do.

Doc.

Will probably be tough for me to get there much earlier than showtime (7:30) but if folks are up that way herfing, I might at least be able to poke my head in and say hi.

Seen Tull 3 times, my favorite band hands down.

If you can get tickets GO!!!!!!!

Arguably some of the greatest lyrics of that time...

Sitting on a park bench --
eyeing little girls with bad intent.
Snot running down his nose --
greasy fingers smearing shabby clothes.
Drying in the cold sun --
Watching as the frilly panties run.
Feeling like a dead duck --
spitting out pieces of his broken luck.

Brian

I'll see your park bench and raise you a:

And the sand-castle virtues are all swept away
in the tidal destruction the moral melee.
The elastic retreat rings the close of play
as the last wave uncovers the newfangled way.
But your new shoes are worn at the heels
and your suntan does rapidly peel
and your wise men don't know how it feels
to be thick as a brick.

Is it Oct 4th yet? :D

Saw them just after the Thick as a Brick album at the Kiel in St. Louis. Lot's of haze in the air made viewing sort of difficult and remebering even more difficult so it was a great time. Wish I could go. At one time I had all of Tull's albums.

Great show! My gal and the other couple we went with didn't appreciate my "shuffling madness" comment as the line to get in trudged slowly along, but otherwise it was a blast. :D

If anyone has a chance to catch this tour, I highly recommend it it - particularly if Ann Marie Calhoun is playing with him (I'm not sure if she's along for the whole tour or not).

It was a great show. Tigger, like I said, Anne Marie Calhoun could hit a bagpipe with a cat, and I would enjoy the show, and giver her a standing "O" at the end.

Ol' Ian still has it. it is a little slower, and a little more "You're kinda creepy and lacivious" as opposed to "Well, rock stars are like that," but it was a great time.

LOL @ Wilkey!

Josh, that observation about the fiddle lady still has me chuckling.

Somehow, the dirty old man schtick kinda worked.

Oh, and speaking of dirty old men, here's how cool my girlfriend is: I have standing permission to bring Ann Marie home with me, as long as I share.
