I just got a box of Illusione 88's. While I love this cigar, this box was rancid. I checked the box date and it's from Dec 2009, which admittedly is young. I usually buy singles and never looked at the date. Does anyone know how long it will take before they smooth out enough to smoke?

Did you buy local, or from somewhere like Cbid? Did they appear properly cared for, or dry?
They looked perfect. Just tasted young.

Are you saying the only problem was they tasted fresh? If so let them sit for a few weeks and smoke one. Rinse and repeat until they taste right to you. If there is something wrong with them from the vendor take it up with them.

About a year and a half ago, I got a box of 68s and the box date was July 2008. I got these in late August 2008. I smoked one a few days later and it was very bitter and not enjoyable. After 5 months rest, they were pretty good. After a year, they were prefect. Give them a couple of months and you'll be pleasantly surprised. I find most Nicaraguans are harsh and very flat anywhere from 1-4 months from the date on the box. Except for Padron. They smoke great at any age.

I have a direct wholesale account with Illusione, so it came directly from them. I know they are just young. I'm just curious to know how long they are going to have to sit before they are ready to smoke. The box is from December '09, so it should be young. 3 months? 4 months? I just don't like to pull one out if I know it needs to sit for 6 months.
