Hey gang,
Well, I survived. Up at 5am to go fishing then drinking beer all night while playing computer games with my nephwew till 1am, with a cigar thrown in here and there. What a life!!!
Check these out...

not bad for a very windy, whitecap filled bay! and no, we're not lined up by our fish... mine are on the LEFT side!

A great day on the water...

the image I emailed to my wife while she was sitting at her desk while I was off playing on the water! (I'm an a$$hole, what can I say!)

a cute little bird (Puffin) I tried to run over...

And for those that remember, our anniversary was a big hit! Mary had NO idea we were going out, but I had my nephew call and say he forgot something and if I'd bring it to him. So I told mary to grab the camera so I could get a pic of him at work, which he HATES. So she came along to distract him and I could snap the pic. As we were walking down to the place he works, I told her I promised my brother-in-law I'd check out some water taxi prices for him. We walked in, and I told the lady behind the counter that 'We're here for the taxi ride across the bay and dinner' and she remembered me and said- 'oh yeah.. happy Anniversary!' at which point Mary looked totally dumbfounded and only muttered, 'WHAT?' then went into a long tirade hat she looked like crap, hadn't showered (I tred to tell her earlier that she stunk and needed one but she didn't pick up on the hint) and she finally settled down. We went across the water to Otter Cove and had a FANTASTIC dinner... mission accomplished!

Back at work, and planning the next trip to Homer and the red salmon run...

Incredible Swissy! I gotta get out to Alaska sometime to fish. The only other time I ever saw bigger was at a sharking contest off the coast of Montauk. Glad you had a great time. Seems like a helluva of a country up there!

Some very nice catches you got there brother! Sounds like you had a blast! Happy to hear it. :)

Welcome back! Glad the anniversary dinner went well.

Nice haul! Sure glad you're not one to rub it in. :p :sign:

WOW, those fish are a lot bigger than the punkinseeds I catch in the "lakes" around here

We don't have any puffins in these parts, just wayward sea gulls that made their way inland to feast at the dumps!

Glad to hear you had a fantastic time Swissy

The fish I got were the second and third on the left side of the photo, under the girl in the yellow rain coat...

and to all- yup had a GREAT time. Didn't think about work at all, didn't worry about bills, had some nice cigars (loved the RyJ Cedros #3!), filled my freezer a little more, got a great contact for when I buy my own boat, and no offense, but I didn't miss being a post whore here! :p

CC, these were actually alot smaller than I had hoped for. The weather sucked for the trip- Kachemak Bay was white capped, the wind was blowing pretty good and the skies were dumping rain! But the boat we were on was fairly large, and plowed thru the seas ok. And after bobbing around like a cork for a hour (with a couple in the party chumming the waters) the seas layed down and we started catching fish, since we were able to keep the bait on the bottom. Actually a good hole for these sizes, which ranged in 25# to the largest which was in the 65-70# range. My luck with 100# and bigger halibut still holds- been fishing Homer for 27 years I figured out and I'm the only one in my family that has yet to get a big halibut! But that's ok... these taste beter anyways... we had a cleaning party at the station today and my 153quart cooler is half full of halibut packs. That'll last me maybe until the end of the year?

Sounds like you had a great time.

UMMM... halibut is a great tasting fish.

I used to go up to lake Michigan and fish for salmon with my dad, brother and uncle. My uncle had a house right on Grand Traverse Bay. He had a very nice 38' boat all rigged up for trolling. Man that was fun.

Welcome back Swissy. Looks like you had a hell of a good time. Also sounds like Otter Cove might have laid the groundwork for your own Forbidden X chased with a Double Ligero. Smooth move brother.

I gotta get up there and do some fishing. Got a little skunked out this weekend here with the weather being so tempermental - though I did land a few good sized dolphin on Sat.

Welcome back Swissy...and nice goin' with the fish and the anniversary surprise!

Unfortunately, I've been havin' trouble with myalgia for a little more than a year, so even thinkin' about pullin' up just the chickens makes me ache all over. Even had to turn down a good deal on a trip out of Ninilchik the other day.

Dinner at the Corsair is our anniversay tradition...first the dating anniversaries and now, the wedding anniversary. I even proposed to her there. She loves Homer, though. I'm gonna have to see about takin' her to Otter Cove next time we're down that way.

Sucks about the myalgia... hope you get it squared away? And I know what your wife means about Homer... us too! We actually own 5 acres on Diamond Ridge overlooking the water, and when i'm done with the fire dept in 11 years there will be smoking tire tracks headed that way and I WON'T be looking back!

And the Corsair.... Mmmmmmmm tasty place! But look into AY of the across the bay lodges- Otter Cover, Tutka Bay, Halibut Cove- they all do some sort of dinner deal. And the meal was fanTASTIC! I had a baked halibut with mango cutney and curry sauce that was to DIE for! I actually got the recipe and will be trying it out at my station, as soon as the guy that's deathly allergic to coconu milk is off in Iraq... :(

and PM headed your way about the Fuente event at Petes...
