I just wanted to drop in and say hello from Avalon Cigars. We're diong some things just a little different and would love to get your feedback. As I figure out how all of this works, I'll include some of our sticks in a pass.

Best regards,

Tom

Why not send a few out to guys for a coordinated review? We've got members here who could most definitely give you excellent feedback. For example Mark Twain, Cuppajack, Marcos, MiamiCubano, and tkoepp just to name a few.

I look forward to reading the reviews. I hope to be able to help out a few folk form back home.

Loren,

I'd love to participate but honestly I just don't have the time. I will, however, send a group PM to those members I identified above as ones that have caught my eye in terms of the consistent competence and artistry of their reviews. The list is not exhaustive and I do apologize to the other excellent reviewers I might have inadvertently left off.

While I will volunteer to get this started, I hope that one of the guys will step up and coordinate the collection and presentation of the results. I am confident that they will do a good job for you and our members.

BTW, your website is quite stylish. Nicely done!

Welcome to the site.

Nice to see a vendor that looks like they spent some time here before posting.

From their website:

"Our proprietary aging process that uses pecan wood instead of Spanish cedar gives our smokes just the slightest of hint of nutty aroma"

I amassuming this is what is different, but not sure what the results are.

Good Luck. This place can be a great resource for you.

Perhaps they read the Freccia, Jacobsen, and Kilby paper from 2003 that investigated price-characteristics-ratings relationships in premium hand-rolled cigars. In that report, they found that the taste "nuttiness" was strongly and positively associated with a higher rating. In other words, reviewers like "nuttiness" as a flavor and they were likely to rate a cigar higher if this flavor was detected.

Personally, pecans are my favorite nut but that's beside the point. :D

Wow, I'm honored to be mentioned in the same breath as those BOTLs!

I'd be very happy to participate in any review-type-thing that goes on but I'm not 100% confidant in my ability to coordinate this as my coming few months are going to be rough at the office...

Address is in the profile tho ;)

Much appreciated compliment Wilkey.

As far as undertaking a coordinated effort with respect to a tasting, I'll be heading out of the country for a bit this Wednesday, so can't really take it on at this time. However, upon my return, I'd be willing to sample and give a review of any product(s) you are willing to send out.

Nice looking site! Did I miss something, I didn't see prices on any of your product.

we don't list the prices on the web site because we don't sell directly to consumers. the retailers set their own prices but we suggest that the Juke Series prices be between $5-7 and the Masters between $9-14.

Just curious...if you don't sell to consumers, how do you expect feedback (mentioned in your first post in this thread) on this product unless you send out samples? I might have missed it, but I couldn't find a list of retailers on your website referencing where these sticks are available. So, if one doesn't get sent a sample...how, where, etc. are they able to look for and try your sticks?

Nice looking site by the way. And props on getting a quote from Jimbo.

the list of retailers will be on the new web site coming out in a couple of weeks. we just shipped out our first order to a very small number of retailers last week. the number of retailers will ramp up quickly...we hope.

wow! you make us sound much smarter than we really are. I haven't read the Freccia, Jacobsen, and Kilby paper from 2003, but perhaps I shold. Actually we just wanted to impart some "Southern" chararistics to the cigars and pecan is a very southern wood. I went out in the back yard, cut down a pecan limb, chopped it up and put it in a big tupperware box with some of our sticks. The result was positive, but not overbearing so we went with it.
