Is there a V-Cutter you prefer to Xikar?

....hear, hear. Funny thing, I had the Xikar and hadn't been using it much. Craig's posts got me to reconsider, so I gave the blades a good alcohol wipe and started using it more. Son of a gun, I really like it. My cutter selection is old school Xikar, old school Palio, Colibri V-cutter, Xikar V-cutter, and a Xikar punch. All quality tools, but these days, other than torpedoes, pretty much everything goes into the Xikar V-cutter. Might have to get one of the inexpensive ones from Amazon to try, well, because.... 🤣

Got to say, again, the best thing you can do for all your cutting tools is to give them a good alcohol wipe every couple months. The blades don't get 'dull' per se, but they do get coated with sticky cigar oils and don't cut worth a crap. Alcohol wipes get used around here for lots of things; I use them on PCB's I rework, clean off the box cutter and pocket knife, really handy to have around. Cheap at the pharmacy and lots of other places, and they really do a great job on your cutters.

Party on, gentlemen....

Well I'm a one trick person, I still use my original Palio. Blades are still sharp, but the 2 pieces have began to come apart, if I'm not careful.

I'll be looking into a V cutter.

You know I have never done this. Maybe they aren’t that dull after all. Thanks Tom!

OMG brother, your cutter is likely fine...!! Hit Walgreens or the local pharmacy, get some alcohol wipes, and scrub that sucker good. You'll be amazed. The great quality blades in your Xikar are way, way harder than the tobacco you're cutting....should honestly last a lifetime.

Wow. I feel like a total knob. Don’t think I ever cleaned my Palio either and it still cuts like a dream after 20+ years. Good thing I started this thread! ☺️

I happen to like the deep bite on my Colibri V cut. I find that on occasion if it's too shallow (or my alignment is off) it can tear the foot.

Source: My Colibri SV broke, I replaced it with a Xikar.

Most days I use a straight cut.

....well, based on recommendations, of course I went looking on Amazon. $13.99..?? OK, what the heck, send it:

Got here yesterday. First impression is it's a very nice cutter..!! Very heavy, smooth, feels decently well made. However, if you look at the blade geometry sitting next to my Colibri, you'll see that they're very close to each other. Which is to say it's going to take a hell of a bite out of the cigar. Pretty sure it'd take the whole end off a Tatuaje Black Petite Corona (aka: "Black Crack"). My experience is they cut so
deep I've had wrappers start to come loose. However, If you like Toros or large ring cigars, it's probably great as it should really open them up. I prefer the Xikar as it's more versatile and can be used for almost anything other than a torpedo. But, this seems to be decent and if that's what you're looking for, for the price it may be hard to beat. I'll give it a test chop after lunch, let you know if it does anything crazy. I'm still 'thumbs up' for the Xikar, but it's a personal preference, to be sure.

....well, first cut didn't go well, at all. Basically mashed the end off a Tatuaje. Ugh. I'm going to alcohol wipe it and try again with a different stick, but wow it sure didn't do a good job. YMMV, etc.....

Xikar and the Colibri cut like razors.....this one, not so much.

Second try after alcohol; cut of a La Paulina bundle smoke went much better, but not great.

OK, it's cheap but cuts like it. I've had super cheap single blade throw aways that were tolerable when nothing else was available. My $00.02 here....hard pass. One man's opinion.....
