ISO Good Commute Smokes

Oh and before I forget... the Plasencia TKO is a great small stick when you don't have much time.

Excalibur Maduro PC (VII's ?) and a second for Bolivar PC's and Sancho Panza Extra Fuerte PC (damn - forget which name it is - senior moment).

My commute is 1 3/4 hrs. each way ( not whining) - I get to still smoke my favorite Churchill's, Double Corona's and my favorite size 71/4x54.

Consuegra Villazon's for the short commute. Changed to Perdomo Fresh Rolled Churchills for the long commute. Moved and I drive 55.

I like an RD Gomez Fast-Break maduro for those times. It's a 3 3/4 x 48 little pepperpot that stands up well to a heavier draw. Of course, Fuente's Short Story is a great smoke as well!

What year are your Fast-Breaks? Double D and I ordered a box of the maduros and to be frank they suck dead donkey. They arrived soaking wet and even after a month in a dry box still taste horrible.

These are the recent production ones with the new band, not the band with the pheasant on it.

And I have to give my nod to Wade, the RP SG PCs are awesome little cigars.

I'm on my 4th or 5th box, split one with Brewmeister last year, and have been "hooked" ever since. The current box is maybe 2-3 months old, and the smokes tasted great right out of the box. Sounds like you got a bad one, did you call and ask about it? They seem to be a pretty straight up place with which to deal, and although I can't speak for them, they might make it right.

Brew turned us onto the Fast breaks when he was in Germany, Dale ordered a box and we waited a few weeks and he had to call again to only be told "Oh we only shipped UPS ground, but I'll make sure you get your box and send you a sampler of our other cigars to make up for your long wait." A few weeks later the soaking wet maduro (we ordered natural) Fast Breaks arrived, No "free sampler" as promised, just the non smokable fast breaks.

It kinda pissed us off and we decided to say screw it and not try to have them "make it good" and we will no longer order from them again.

The cigars are bland and sour after being in a dry box for over a month, I doubt they are going to come around. And its a damn shame since the ones Brew was kind enough to gift us with were awesome.

Dang Shawn, Sorry to hear that the Fast-Breaks didn't satisfy. I'd certainly call Ralph, in Vegas, 702-461-8817 (he is the "R" in the R.D. Gomez) I've spoken with him before and he was a heck of a nice guy. Let me know if I can be of any assistance. BTW- were the one I shared with you guys Gran-Reserva Fast-Breaks? Not that it would make any difference, except I think they are now the only ones with the Pheasant on the band. I've enjoyed them and the Maddies. Never had the Claros.

Wow, guess I asked the right question, this thread has really taken off. Lots of great inputs, everyone. Just got my LFD grab-bag of smokes I ordered from Jack Schwarz. I'll post some commute reviews on some of these as I start looking for some of the others mentioned in the thread. I may also be putting together a box split of Chiselitos if there is any interest. (maybe even a double box split if there is enough interest).

-K-

I'm thinking you turned us on to the Gran-Reserva Tim. And it was Ralph who apologized to Dale and then said he would send a sampler bundle to him to make up for not getting back to him for over 4 weeks about the shipment problem. So we are both kinda :-/ about the whole situation.
