Although I have smoked cigars off and on, I have been mislead in the possibility of smoking a true ISOM. Now that I know better what are some of the brands that are out there and can someone give me a ball park pricing range? I want to know how much to save up on the side so the other half doesn't know. :whistling:

Click on the sponsor links and do some research. Search on Google. But you'll be hard pressed to find people to talk about sources and prices.

I guess I should have asked this question instead.

What brands exist as both ISOMs and Domestics?

Bolivar
Cohiba
El Rey Del Mundo
H. Upmann
Hoyo de Monterrey
La Gloria Cubana
Montecristo
Partagas
Por Llaranaga
Punch
Romeo y Julieta
St Luis Rey
Sancho Panza

Plus a host of others that are named after long lost Cuban Marques such as La Corona, Davidoff, and Dunhill to name a few. Hope that helps.

Per personal experience, any of them considered over priced Dog Rockets? I just don't want to save and get something that several people have had a bad experience with.

I also want to add Trinidad to that list. I don't know how I over looked that one. As far as over priced dog rockets, that is subjective. Everyone has their own opinion about cigars. Personally, I think Cohibas are overhyped and overpriced. But I figure that is because I have never had a Cohiba that was "on". Al the ones I have had didn't do anything for me. Now I think they are good, but not my type of cigar. If I ever get a chance to try one that is from an aged box that a fellow BOTL says is awesome, then I will try them again, but until then forget it.
Another line that I think is overpriced right now is the Trinidad line. I have somek some of the newer sizes, and they are no where near ready to smoke. I have had a 98 Fundadore, that was simply amazing! Hands down the best and most memorable smoke I have ever had. So I guess if you were buying for the future, you could justify the price.
I suggest not buying any Bolivars yet either. They are simply a very strong cigar to someone not used to Cubans. But they age very well. Many can attest to s great BBF or Robusto with 4-5 years of age on it.
I may catch hell for it, but I recommend some "lighter" Cubans until you start to develop a palate for cubans. Try a ERDM, Montecristo, RyJ for something that isn't too over powering. Also a Mag46 seems fairly light to me. Hope that helps.

There's a Cuban Davidoff? I absolutely love that cigar..... Anyone help me in obtaining that???

They aren't hard to obtain if you don't mind paying the rather high price -- they haven't been made since 1991. They do have their own unique taste, but... you'll have to decide for yourself if it is worth it.

I personally think you're better off buying a box of Davidoff Millennium Blends than a couple of sticks of aged Cuban Davidoffs for the same price. They do make nice special occasion smokes tho.

Everybody on here's heard me beating this drum, but I would recommend the Cuaba line, any vitola. To me a very distinctive flavor profile, haven't been disappointed by one yet, and a nice medium bodied smoke.

With this hobby, more than half the fun is in the exploration.... :D

Agreed! Everyone's taste is different... I wonder if people on beer web boards get into brawls over which country makes the best beer, or people get mad if you don't like XXXX brand. ;) Wait a minute... duh... of course they do! :D

I personally don't particularly like the Cuaba line -- a bit too much on the "grassy" side of things for my tastes. Some people absolutely love 'em tho... psytek is giving good advice here... try as many smokes as you can, see what you prefer.

For me Cohibas have a unique flavor profile that is unlike any other Havana marque. Seems the average BOTL likes them ok and a few love them. It also seems that those that love them (myself included :D ) are a bit more picky. There are few other Havana cigars that I love and would rate even close to my beloved Cohibas. I find this fascinating.
