A great friend, and brother of the leaf, Joe, has just been diagnosed with leukemia and has been hospitalized. Please keep him and his wife and two sons in your prayers.

My grandfather, WWII vet (radiologist), treated American and German soldiers...developed Leukemia. Gave me a Walther P38 he got from a Luftwaffe Officer he treated. Had the swastika and Eagle stamped on it. Two magazines with original 9mm rounds loaded still. Died when I was 17 or so. I was too young and too much of a dumb punk to truly get to know or appreciate him. I sure wish I could talk to him and share military experiences now. I've been absolutely terrified during combat and done my part to survive and come home. Not a big fan of telling the events to the wife and son...they don't need to know the horrific details. I would give just about anything to to look at that man again, as a man, and have some alone time with him to recount our respective histories. Give Joe my thoughts and make sure you make the most of the time you have.

To any who sent prayers, a little update: In November, my buddy Joe went ahead with a bone marrow transplant that had a slim chance of success, but was still his best shot. Today he is officially cancer free and enjoying life with his family.
