Sat down with a glass of water and my book yesterday evening and lit up a Juan Lopez Petite Corona. Here are my impressions.

Juan Lopez Petite Corona

Rather rustic looking little cigar. The wrapper was a slightly reddish brown and had a couple of major veins and seems. Not the prettiest cigar, but then this is not a beauty contest. No soft spots and had one of the most expertly applied triple caps that I have ever seen. Perfectly straight lines separated the three flags. The pre-light nose was lit, but smelled of wood and hay. These was just a hint of sweetness to it, but this was very much a bit player. The pre-light draw was very tight...here's to hoping it will loosen up.

Put the torch to it and it lit up easily. Horror or horrors :0 , the damned cigar did not loosen up one bit. It was just as tight on the draw as the pre-light. I absolutely hate that. I tried a small drill bit that I had on the porch, but it didn't do the trick. I was stuck with a plugged cigar. Since it was so tight, the smoke production was very low. All I was able to coax out of the cigar were whisps of smoke. The burn on the cigar was even, never requiring touch-ups or corrections. The ash was firm and white. The cigar smoked cool down to an inch and a half (took a lot of work to get there) when I finally gave up and chucked it.

Since I was not able to draw much smoke through this plugged cigar, I am sure that I missed many of the flavor nuances of this cigar. I would place it at mild to medium in body. The primary flavors were woody and herbal, having a very clean tobacco taste and short finish. The aroma was very pleasant, once again herbal and woody with some nice hay and campfire smells. I would have really loved to have been able to capture all of the flavors of this little cigar.

Normally, I would have thrown this cigar away in the first inch or so. However, I was really looking forward to trying it and I only had the one. So, I sat through it and worked hard at it. The flavors that I was to note were to my liking. Must try another soon. Due to the plugged nature of this cigar, I am not going to give it my usual overall rating. For construction, I give this cigar an F . For taste, I give this cigar a B+ .

I have to admit that I was excited to read your review. Too bad the experience didn't go better. I have a couple sitting in one of my humidors that I was tempted to smoke yesterday. I went with a Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 Robusto instead. I hope that when I do finally get around to smoking mine that I have a better story to write! I will post after I smoke it. We can look at it as a continuation of your review. Have you tried any of the RP Vintage 1990's?

Ive had 4 or 5 of these and didnt have any draw problems. Medium-firm draw at worst. Maybe another tasting is in order. I found they had a very nice "spice".
But like you said if its plugged you really lose a lot of flavor. :(
Nice review :D Try another just for fun

Most likely will, but it will take a while. Not sure if I want a box of these based on this experience, so will have to wait to get my hands on another single. Oh well, that's all part of the fun.

Cigardawg you always have great reviews even if the cigar doesnt turn out to be a great smoke. A friend gave a couple of these and I enjoyed them thoroughly. Better luck with the next one with all the great news on these Im sure it will be a better experience.

What year was the one you smoked? Sorry it was plugged but I guess that's just how it is with a man made product. Better luck on the next one!

I couldn't tell you, Cliff. I just don't know. I got it as a single to try prior to making some decisions. Really loved the taste, just not the draw. Oh well. :p
