My wife's current car is rear wheel drive, which is great for a sports car on dry roads, but really lousy on icy roads in the winter. So we had been looking for quite some time for something new in a 4WD SUV category. We've looked at the Escalades, Denalis, and even H2's, however it just seems like those cars are a bit trendy, and simply a way for rich folks to say "Look at Me! I can afford the newest trend!". With this, however, it has more functionality, folks don't immediately look at it and say "$$$", and we'll be the only folks with 100 miles with it!

We go pick it up on Monday, I can't wait!

And hopefully the pic worked. I've never gotten them to work before, so this is a trial.

Edited to add: Sweet, the pic worked. And I forget, it's a MB G500.

Great old school offroader indeed a true 4x4 with tons of class. Although when you said "those cars are a bit trendy, and simply a way for rich folks to say "Look at Me! I can afford the newest trend!"." :sign: RLMAO!!!!! You were joking right? This is the most trendy SUV as they get, from Rapperes to moguls brat kids they all gotta have one. Its the most recent "LOOK @ ME!!!" Hollywood status symbol do not be fooled.

Anyway....deffo a nice choice of wheels. Thaks for the laugh as well all in good nature of course. :D

We picked up a new X3 for my wife this year. We got the 3.0, sport package, etc. Here in the Pacific Northwest, we don't have much snow, ice, etc. but in the fall we get wet leaves and constantly wet roads that get flat slimy; very slick. Got to say that the AWD on the BMW is pretty cool; my wife really has really fallen in love with her new rig; I'll bet you guys feel the same about your new car.

Congrats on the MB...!!...

Cheers - B.B.S.

No really, I'm serious! We live way out in the country, where there was only one other person in the entire community (about 50,000 people) that owned a Mercedes. The G500 is something folks here have probably never seen, so they won't look at us and say, "Oh look, another person in town driving a $50000 SUV."

good luck andy, i love that truck. my neighbor has one, and it is more truck than suv...i like the tilt guages to let you know how steep a grade of hill is. good luck with it.

Nice toy.......enjoy it.

I am currently in the market for a new car. It is time to trade in my Jaguar XJ8L.I have looked at the new model of my car, and am considering buying one. My biggest issue is roominess. None of the other cars in this class have enough leg room in the back. I have tall children and I have to keep my seat all the way back( I'm 6" 4" ). I looked at the new Infinities and 7 series BMW's, but neither have the room I am looking for. Lexus and Mercedes have never had enough leg room.

My wife drives a GMC Yukon XL, which is perfect for the 6( I have 4 kids) of us, and is the car we always use when we are all together.

I'll probably end up with another Jaguar, although my dream car is the Bentley. Some day I'll grab one, but for now I can't swing it.I could use my kids college money and pay cash for it, but I think that would be a tad irresponsible. LOL

You don't think that says "look at me."? Don't get me wrong it is a sweet-a$$ ride. I would definitely own it also, but the MB emblem says look at me, IMO.

Anyways, sweet ride. Enjoy the hell out of it.

I've always been a fan of the Galedenwagen (sp) due to its direct military roots. Three locking diffs, tilt sensors, an excellent 4WD system....the list goes on and on. And to top it off, its got M-B luxury on the inside!

Good purchase man, i hope you enjoy it!

A friend of mine's dad (Yeah, he's a doctor) has one of these. It has 3 diff locks! It's built like a DAMN tank! pretty bad ass SUV, IMHO.

The funny thing is we had it one night and we couldn't find the gas door release button, so after 10 minutes we called my friend's dad. He laughed and said, you just push in the gas door. And after that he says, "Don't worry, I called the dealer to ask them where the button was too."

On my wife's car that we just traded in (MB C230 Kompressor) we ordered it with the 6 speed stick. So 6th gear is where reverse normally goes, and reverse, on the diagram, is actually left and back. But the dealer didn't tell me the trick when he left me in a parking spot nose in, so I sat there for 10 minutes getting it into second and lurching forward until he came out and said you have to lift up, then all the way left and back!

mall crawler? What kind of malls do you go to? The the MB G500 is one of the most capable off-roaders of its size.
When I was in Moscow a couple years back these things were all over the place (relatively speaking), we even saw a Brabus version.

I say mall crawler as i guarantee 95% of the SUV's that roll off the showroom floor these days dont see even a dirt road in their lifetime...especially these 50,000 dollar plus grocerey getters. One persons viewing of off-roading is different from anothers...my "SUV" on the other hand has seen PLENTY of "off-roading" :D

My old Cherokee (RIP after a long tumble at Moab last year!)

They aint pretty, but there is nowhere they cant go!

Not knocking your guys' choice in vehicles...i just couldnt fathom spending that kinda money on a vehicle and actually driving it in the dirt. :whistling:

Nice Gonz

When I got rid of my ML350 it was a choice between that and the Caddy Escalade.

The reason I went Escalade was for a change. I had three MLs over a 4 year period and before that it was the E300 a great car. I change then every two or three years. So, who knows maybe next time.

Great vehicle. Good luck with it.
