I just got my hands on an AVO LE 05 .... has anyone had one? And are they good?

My local B&M also handed me a La Aurora Preferido but no band ... toro shape, it has an oily and dark wrapper, guessing corojo, but has anyone know what I am talking about and has anyone had one?

Those cigars suck, I wouldn't smoke it if I was you! But since I like you send it to me and I'll dispose of it for you :whistling:

One of the better N/C's out there and a joy to smoke. Enjoy it!

Hey Tone but have you heard of that second cigar ... it smells awesome and he said it is a full bodied cigar.

IMHO, the OR AVO LE05 is a very good cigar. I have tried the "secondary" LE05 releases from the AVO 80th Anniv. humidor and as is the case with the AVO 22s in the humidor not being the same as the OR AVO 22s, I do not think these are the same as the OR LE05. Not a bad cigar, but just not the same. If the LE05 you purchased came in a very plain, non-ornate box (I recall Andrew's site having a picture of it) and you enjoy the cigar, go back and buy the rest as they are becoming difficult to find in shops.

Regarding the Aurora cigar - last December I bumped into the Aurora rep at a 10 vendor cigar event. Aurora was not one of the "official" vendors at this event, but the rep was there handing out cigars to a few people he knew. He told me that it was a new Aurora that was in its early stages of production. I don't recall the specifics, sorry, but it sure sounds like the one you described. I don't remember it being good or bad so I guess you will have to tell us about it now :D

Thanks fo the info, as I recall it was a plain cedar box and he had maybe 4 or 5 left. If I like it I will get the rest if they are still around.

The La Aurora Preferido comes in 5 blends. The Gold (Corojo), Platinum (Cameroon), Ruby (Maduro), Saphirre (Conneticut Shade), and Emerald (Eucudorian Sumatra). I may have the colors confused, but each cigar is the same filler and binder, but with different wrappers. I love them but they are pricey. I see them around here from $18ish to $24ish.

Enjoy it.

-Edit for spelling (again)-

Have smoked the Gold (Corojo), Paltinum (Cameroon), and the Ruby (Maduro) and liked each one of them. Each one's flavor reflects the different wrapper, and the rolling is spot on with a nice even burn, tight ash, and all produced volumes of smoke. Even with our relatively low (5%) tobacco tax in SC, they are a bit pricey $17 - $20 a stick. Not your everyday cigar, but one to occasionally enjoy.

I was gifted one of the gold-corojo sticks a while back...I don't recall it being unbanded though...but, at this point in the evening, my typically vice-like memory is faltering.

Edited to add -

Speaking of faltering, I neglected to mention - it was an outstanding stick. Not worth its price point though - there are far better and/or superior sticks out there for less scratch.

They suck! Send them to me please. Oh yeah, and they're fake, too.

:p

But seriously. The LE05 whether OR or subsequent release (and I've smoked a variety) are wonderful. One of the most amazing trailing smoke (burning end) aromas of any cigar. Good solid, old school tobacco flavor. Aromatic and with a punch. Buy whatever you can find.

I am a bit bothered ....
I went back to my local B&M to get another AVO LE 05 so I can trade with a fellow CP, but when he pulled down the box I noticed it looked a lot different then the ones I have been researching online ... he's telling me these are AVO LE 05 but I think they are AVO LE 07. I could be wrong. Man if I am not I am a bit pissed!

The AVO LE05 are like Toro sized and come in a squarish box that has four layers of 5 cigars each. The LE07 is sort of corona-ish and comes in a flat pack box of 20 with 10 over 10.

I have an LE05 resting that an old boss gave me. I'm thinking Christmas or maybe Thanksgiving will be a good time to smoke it. Can only sit there so long, you know. ;)
