Well the last week has been busy. With Rita blowing in and totally disrupting my world she also has caused quite a bit of problems for me trying to meet with this family. The problem is there are now no hotels available anywhere. Between the Katrina evacuees and the people displaced by Rita I can not get a hotel between here and there. They are about 6 hours away (one way) so driving there and back in the same day is not in the cards. I'm trying to work out a place we can meet halfway and should know more about that in the next day or so.

In keeping the money above board..... currently the amount we are doing the check for is $6,008.17. We got dinged by Paypal for some 84.62 when we transfered the cash. Neither Matt nor I anticipated this as we both thought the 3% charge was a CC thing not cash between accounts. I am still waiting on $655 of the above total that I fully expect has been delayed simply because of the storm. My mail carrier told me that all mail coming to this area was halted until Rita passed.

I have the art work for the check and will take it to the printer tomorrow. (thank you Icyo) The check looks great and in the "from" area of the check it says: Members of CigarPass.com.

Hopefully the remaining money will be here in the next day or so and I can work out a place to pass along the money this weekend. I spoke with Alex earlier today and learned that they were "let in" to the area where he lived today. His wife insisted on seeing it. Alex told me I wouldn't believe what they were seeing and he would have some picturres to show me. More to come......

Just a quick note on Paypal, the surcharge has to do with the type of account to which you transfer the funds. If you enable it to accept credit card payments, you get charged a fee for accepting ANY kind of transaction.

That's why I, and many other people, maintain two accounts--one for CCs when there is no option, and another that has not been "upgraded" to accept credit card payments, so you can accept payments without getting charged.

Great Job Kenny, and everyone involved in setting this up. Have you been PMing people when the MO arrives. I don't know if my payment is one of the held up pieces.

If so, you'll find some extra above my bill in the MO to defray costs lost.

Yes, yours is one of them but we fully expected that since it is coming from overseas. I have a contigency plan in place so don't sweat it. If all of the funds are not in the bank and cleared by the time I pass this along I will give them a bank check for the amount that we do have and forward the remainder once cleared. This is one of the main reasons for doing the big blown up check as we can put the total amount we raised on it. This is a downscaled copy of what the big check should looks like when we're finished.

Excellent work everyone! The check looks great!!!

Check will be 1 1/2 x 3 feet or is that 3 x 1 1/2 feet? I never did understand what order height width and depth is suppose to be stated. Anyway.....

We have a set back on the timing of this. I spoke with Alex today and he will be working this weekend so the transfer has been postponed. Unless some hotel space opens up somewhere around Baton Rouge there's nothing I can do until he's off work and can meet me halfway. I'm still trying to work an angle about some accmodations in Baton Rouge so there's a glimmer of hope for this weekend but.....

As an FYI, a few of you were shipping or having shipped some items directly to the family. As of today, they have not received any of the items. If you shipped something please follow up on it being shipped/received and let me know. I will verify with the family that they indeed did receive it. Thanks!
