La Flor Dominicana Factory Press II

So as we all have wanted to know (at least I have) how is the new LFD FP II? Well here is what I think. Your results may vary ;)

First Impressions
The very first thing that I noticed was that this stick is smaller than the original Factory Press, in both length and girth. Even with a diminished stature the overall impression and constructions is top notch. Just as the original, this smoke sports a perfectly flat face and a smoothly curved back. The wrapper is paper smooth with a color like hand tanned dark leather. After a whiff of the foot, the small impression of caramel is noted.

Cut and Prelight
After a snip, and a quick sushi snack to help support the belly, it is time for a quick taste. The cigar presents a mouth of smooth flowing air without hinting at any secrets. The only taste I receive is from the wrapper on my lips. A tingle of mesquite peaks my interest. Enough of this strip-tease now on to the show.

Lighting and First Tastes
I had to procure a torch for this big stick. Right off the bat (under a minute of smoking) this smoke is producing a thick sweet honey almond smoke. Originally I nicknamed the FP I “The Snickers Bar”, and this little brother might just turn out to be “The Milky Way”. :D

First Inch
One can tell this is definitely a Litto Gomez cigar. This stick is packed with flavor. An espresso burnt bitter tingle melts in with a mead and hardy nougat thickness. These flavors are both distinct and overlapping. The appearance of these flavors seems to be in the timing. While the smoke rests in your mouth, the espresso element is evident. After taking it through the nose, it melts away while slightly overlapping with the thick caramel and nougat flavors.

So far the ash has been rough and flakey, along with a slightly warped burn that requires attention. This isn’t to surprising considering the extreme press shape of this cigar. As the heat works down the stick, it will slightly return to true. Taking this element into consideration, I feel the smoke is performing well. I have seen and smoke many worse sticks ;)

Reaching the Half
Mmmmm….looks like someone added a little steamed milk to my espresso. At this point the cigar has mellowed to a cognac, latte, whipped nougat and almond smoke. Very thick smoke encompasses the mouth and provides strong refined flavor. One could equate it to a strong taste of Nilla Wafers and mocha ice cream.

The burn cleaned up a bit and evened out, yet the ash has remained flaky. Even with these minor concerns, it seems to make no impact of the quality and enjoyment of this smoke.

Last Quarter
Smoking this cigar seem to bring on more changes. Smooth Litto ligero spice has come out to say hello. Just enough of this flavor is present to keep me interested. The mixture of other elements have come together to form a banana bread backing. Even at this point the smoke is thick and enjoyable with every puff.

Time to Part
Well the end came before I realized. The finish was covered with a strong licorice flavor. Mixed in was a pretty standard funk, but not enough to taint my experience.

End Notes
So, was it good? Well, for me it was quite enjoyable, smooth and complex with a nice spiced finish. Is it deserving of the “Milky Way” moniker I mentioned earlier? Not completely, but it is a rich chewy smoke.

As always the best way to find out if you like this stick is to get one and smoke it. That’s what cigars are for, smoking :D

Smokem’ if you gotem’

Great review, my mouth was literally watering. I’ll have to give the milky way a try!

Wow, that looks good - I need to find one (or some)

Great review Tony!!!
Great, something else that I need to try!!! ;)

Thanks for the review!!!

Great review Tony!
I was hoping to wait till the Litto event to smoke one, but now I don't think so!

Excellent review... I didn't get to try one of these at RTDA, but I wanted to give it a go. Litto mentioned that they made 'em smaller because people complained that the original Factory Press was a bit too large/awkward. Was glad to year that.

Damn, you go to weed college! Nice review. Now I have got ask, how much are these little gems?

Enjoyed the review, thanks!

Brian

Tony,

Your review is a masterpiece. I tip my hat to you, sir.

You brought me along for the wild ride. Thank you!

Thanks for all the kinda words guys. Always happy to share a smoking experience. To give you an idea of price, I had to lay down $13.50 for this one. I think is was a fair trade  .

I'd give it a spin at that price.

Already smoked one of these babies and like I told Opus when I smoked it, the FP II was more refined than the first one. I really like this cigar and Litto once again hasnt disappointed me. I'm smoking a LFD DL Lancero as I type this.

:0 Holy Crap guys! If it's better than the first FP I don't know if I can take it...so far I have managed to keep mine safe from myself in the Humi...although it's killing me.

Nice work on the review Tony! Hey can I get you to sign this for me and run it by the Notary.

I, Tony (KCOPUSX) do herby promise to send Todd a replacement Factory Press II each and everytime he smokes one from his Humidore. Furthermore, I promise to fullfill this agreement from this point forward as the new lines of LFD are released.
