I bought Zeppelin tickets at the door at Boston Garden in 1969 for 5.00. Got too see Johny Winter and MC5 to boot. Times change.

Doc.

Congrats Ray - I remember you mentioning this last weekend.

Sorry to hear you won't be able to go though...

EDIT: How many tickets will they let you buy?

X2, I'd have to take the wife. Add plane tickets, hotel, meals.....probably $2K for the both of us for 2 days.

With the current exchange rate, yo would be paying a little over $250.00 USD for the ticket.

I saw Page/Plant in 1994 or 1995. While not really Zeppelin, they played all the tunes. IT was a good show, but I wouldn't pay anywhere near that kind of money to see ANY band. It would be a cool story to tell, but an expensive one.

I got some people to call tomorrow to see if they want to buy them, already some have gone on ebay for $2K+ but there is a bunch on now for $500 and even less. If I don't take them then they will go back into the drawing for somebody else. At least that is how I understand it.

Are you offering these up or do they go back into a pool if you turn them down?

Am I the only one whose initial thought when seeing the title of the thread was Led Zeppelin or Johnny Cash?

As far as the tickets go, I'm sure the concert will be great and those that go will love it, I can think of a number of things I could do with the couple thousand that it would cost in all to see the concert that I would get.

Edit to add: Before anybody mentions it, Yes I know Johnny passed away, when I saw cash he was the first thing to come to mind.

I saw LZ in Tampa in 1977. They played Tampa Stadium (that was before some bank "owned" the naming rights). General admission tickets. Remember that? What a zoo the place was...

We drove over early "to get good seats". They opened the doors after lunch (scheduled show start: 7:30PM). We spent the day in the stadium hanging out and watching the fun. We sat in the bleachers. Out on the field, a bunch of people started a blanket toss and they got pretty good at it, tossing folks pretty far up in the air until some girl went waaaaay up and came down about 10 feet from the blanket. Fortunately, the crowd was so dense she didn't get hurt (much). The crowd "ooohhhdddd" when she hit, but some guy picked her up on his shoulders and she waived at the crowd to show she was ok. I'm sure she felt like a rock star, 50,000 people clapped for her.

Another group of guys built a human pyramid 4 levels high by having some big guys stand in a circle, interlock arms, another circle on top, smaller circle of guys on top and one guy at the very top. Later when I was in the army, we replicated this feat with a bunch of GI's one fine summer day at the barracks in Katterbach, Germany.

There was a giant paper cup fight going on between the stands and the infield (it looked like it was snowing as the wadded up paper cups flew back and forth) until a fight broke out. Some giant guy with no shirt and really long hair broke up the fight, calmed the two guys down. He manged to stop the paper cup bombardment as he stood in the infield, with his arms outstretched to the stands and yelled "Shoe!". Pretty soon a tennis shoe came flying out of the stands. He returned it to the one of the fighters and all was well again. It was a real "Jesus" moment...

The band finally came out (late) and really started rocking. Half-way through the first song, the guy behind me taps me on the shoulder and I turn around. He points up and behind him. The sky behind us is covered in the inkiest, blackest clouds I have ever seen and they are moving right over us. Within a few minutes, the worst thunderstorm ever hits the stadium. The rain is unbelievable in drop size, velocity and volume. Lighting and thunder. We just sat there in the rain. After a few minutes somebody unrolled one of those rolls of plastic sheeting and we spread it out over our heads. That stopped the rain from hitting us, but the water running our seats was a raging torrent. The band had stopped playing and left the stage after just a couple of songs.

The storm didn't last long and the stars were soon visible. They made an announcement that the band had left and the concert was to be rescheduled (it never was). Pandemonium erupted in the stadium. Folks that had expected to be partying well into the night were suddenly told to go home and a lot of them didn't like it. A bunch of people rushed the stage and started throwing the band's gear around. We made our way to the bottom of the stadium steps but the crowd was so thick we had no where to go. We figured we might try the infield. It was flooded, but looked navigable. I jumped over the railing into the infield and found myself treading water as I couldn't touch bottom (I'm 6' 1"). I hollered for help and a bunch of guys hauled me back over the railing into the stadium steps.

We eventually made it out to the parking lot, but not before being completly squished by the crowd (first time, but not the last, I was able to stand still and pick my feet up without falling down). The parking lot was a total zoo and the cops started tearing down the fence to let us out over the curb. It tooks us 5 hours to get home (less than 90 miles).

Eventually, I got my $13 back during the mail-in ticket refund.

Later when I was in Germany, LZ played nearby. I didn't go (I forget why), but the band came out and started to play the first song and John Bonham fell off his seat and then off the stage, having partied just a little too hardy before the show. They cancelled that one too.

If I had the money I go see them again in a heartbeat.

Hammer of the gods, baby. Hammer of the freaking gods!

Congrats Ray sorry to hear you can't make it! You could have done a multi-tasking outing, Zep and Scotch, LOL

Though this seems to be the hottest ticket recently, I'm not so sure I'd want to see this concert. I've seen Plant and Page in Buffalo in 1995 and though the show was good, I've been spoiled by too many bootlegs (audio and video) and would probably be let down with only 3/4 of Led Zeppelin on stage. I'd want to see the hammer of the gods, but I'm afraid (to these eyes and ears anyways) that those days have sadly slipped this band by.

I've seen Plant and the Strange Sensation band open for the Who (yup, another group with one of its more important legs lost in 1978) and they were great. Awesome vibe, still great voice, and I overly enjoyed the Zepp selections.

As a self ascribed Who fanatic, I decided against seeing as many shows this time out (2006) as I did in the past (which usually amounted to about 10 shows per tour). Maybe its my place in life now, maybe I don't have that fire in my belly to see such shows, but all in all the one show I saw was more than enough for me.

Though I love reunion tours (thought the Police and Genesis were quite good) I'm starting to feel that some bands should really know when to pack it in (though, the original topic being about Zepp, they had the good mind to do that and I have nothing but respect for them in that decision).

I'll await a new Aerosmith or Pearl Jam lp/tour, and am very excited about seeing the Boss this year. There's a guy who STILL has LOADS to say and can still turn in one of those legendary 3 hour shows time after time without missing a beat or losing that edge.

God bless Springsteen!

Dirwood

I love Zeppelin as much as the next guy, but those are ridiculous amounts of money you need to pay to see a band that isn't even the original Zeppelin. All power to them for getting together, but it's not the same almost 30 years after Bonzo died.

Ebayed the code cheap, I didn't want to give it away but I didn't want to screw anybody either. Got enough for a nice bottle, I'll drink when they play :)
