The e grain bill is a more typical bourbon recipe with less rye that the other you bought. The k yeast strain produces spicy and caramel flavors.

Unlike pretty much every other bourbon maker in KY, four roses changes its grain bill and yeast strain to create most of their flavors. They do not use massive six story rickhouses that move the barrels around over time and vary aging times. Their rickhouses are single stories with the barrels stacked four high and a fairly uniform aging time give or take a month here and there.

A friend brought it back from Mexico. Can’t wait to give it a try!


UPDATE: Poured myself a glass the other night - neat - and it is as smooth as silk. Very nice agave notes, without the heavy fire of regular unaged blanco tequilas. Not like an aged tequila with the smoky notes, but it is a very refined tequila! Which is fascinating for me (matches my thoughts) because the distiller said it's "...twice distilled and aged to perfection for 18 months in American white oak barrels, then carefully charcoal filtered to restore the crisp agave flavor found in Blanco Tequila" I would say they are spot on - smooth like an anejo yet "crisp" like a blanco without the raw alcohol fire.

Yeah same out here in CA... I mean, we can find them for ridiculous prices, but I won't pay that. A buddy found my bottle at a local grocery store for retail - they let him get two so he picked one up for me.
 
Always worried about whiskeys like this - seems to be gimmicky. But - a very nice malt whiskey (scotch like). A nice toasty oakiness and a great long warm finish. Not bad for the price! Well made.

At our local Binny's (north of Chicago) I found the Warsprite (straight malt whiskey) and their Wight Vvitch Gin. I saw empty shelf signs for their Bloodforge (Bourbon) and Bubblegum head (Bottle in Bond Malt Whiskey). Would love to try the Bloodforge - knowing the edginess of Three Floyds. I was, though, pleasantly surprised at the Warsprite - not as edgy as I'd thought, and certainly nothing at all like Dead Guy Ale Bourbon. I expected the Warsprite to be finished in Three Floyds barrels, but I do not detect any hop notes at all in the whiskey. I have to say - it is well crafted! Looking forward to finding a bottle of Bloodforge!

I honestly thought while it's good there are others that are better. Very, very hyped in our area for a time - very hard to find. People went way too crazy over it. Now I find it pretty much everywhere in stores and on tap in local pubs (love it on tap versus can/bottle). I actually prefer Gumball head a bit more than Zombie Dust (a bit too hoppy for my tastes) in cans and bottles - but especially on tap when I can find it. Their beers are definitely well crafted!

But I am definitely a fan of Three Floyds - not much I really don't like in their line. I've yet to try their Dark Lord Imperial Stout, but would love to get my hands on some (I especially like Imperial Stouts, so I have to imagine Three Floyds would be special). Unfortunately the only way to get a bottle of Dark Lord is to make the trip to their brewery on Dark Lord day. We live fairly close to Munster, IN (where their brewery is) - but I've been guarded about wanting to make the trek as I hear Dark Lord day is pretty crazy. Not sure if that a "good" or "bad" crazy (I've heard some mixed reviews).

Sounds like a stout trade is in order ;) No, I don't have a DL either, never had it as well.
