Liquor Acquisitions

A true friend and exemplary BOTL hooked me up with some front range finds never seen in my allocated bourbon desert. All at just a touch above msrp including tax. Shipping is a bitch though.

Very nice collection! Just had a pour of the Stagg over the weekend. Hard to believe it's Mashbill #1 (the same as EHT). Seems far more flavorful. And the "Kentucky Hug" on that baby is breathtaking!!!

I picked up a bottle of Eagle Rare 12 y-o at Duty Free for $49. I think I paid $50 for the bottle of 10 y-o a few years back and since I had one dram left, I decided to to a side by side.

At first sip I found the 12 to be much boozier than the 10, more than I expected the 2.5% additional ABV would be. The 12 had slightly more presence of vanilla and char (like burnt toast) on the finish once the alcohol wafted away. I set the 12 aside and finished the 10 over the next half hour or so. I went back to the 12 then and found the initial booziness had diminished some and it softened a bit. I got much more of the oak influence. At $49, the 12 was well worth it. Here in the states I don’t know if it’s worth a premium ($15+) over the 10.

Nice! Haven’t seen the 12 anywhere so far. Luckily the 10 is plentiful here at msrp.

I go extreme caution padding. Painters tape on the lid. At least an inch thick bubble taped nice and tight. Then wrap in a few inches of clothing and center in the bag as much as possible and keep the bottles apart as well. Make sure the bag is packed full so nothing moves around much. Never lost a bottle.
