The singer/guitarist from Santiago (Eastern Cuba) is best known in the Sates as the frontman of the Buena Vista Social Club.
He was often seen with his trademark hat and cigar. When asked, he credited his long life to mutton consomme' and rum.
He will be greatly missed.
