I have tried a few (dozen) maduros and have come to the conclusion....The Fuentes cannot make a decent maduro wrapper. Their maduro Hemingways are hard to find but I find the wrapper overpowering such a delicate cigar. The same for the maduros on all their other cigars, with ONE exception, the maduro 858 is a good cigar.

The maduro on an ahston seems to work well with that blend and the maduro on the LGC Serie R fworks very well.

Does anyone else find that the maduro made by the Fuente's is just not a good wrapper?

The Anjeos and Hemmingway maduros are good for me. One of the best maduros made, I think, is the Untold Story. Too bad it is a seasonal cigar for Fuente. The maduro Work of Art is right up there also as a favorite.

No, but I do prefer the Cameroon!

Sure the sun grown are ok, but i cant see wich of them rules. It´s from cigar to cigar. It depends on the rest of the blend if the wrapper "marries". I cant say that the Maduro wrapper are bad or not. Some cigars sux and some dont.... It depends on the smokers taste. It´s that simple i think. Some people have the stranges references and tastes.

I think, generally speaking, that few cigar makers excel in blending an appropriate filler with maduro wrapper. I have always felt that the strength of the filler should approximate the strength of the wrapper, or you will get an uneven tasting smoke. Fuente definitely has issues in trying to match filler with the maduro wrappers it uses, but I will say that the 8-5-8 maduro is right on the money. Even if that is the only one they have gotten right, that is one more than most manufacturers.

Funny - I enjoy the regular line more than the maddies.
The wrapper construction is good...it's just lacking in taste...for me.
I'll have to have one this week and see how they've aged.

Oh - Happy Birthday!

You should be able to tell by the varying responses you got, that as the saying goes..........."Taste is subjective." What one smoker loves, the other can't stand. I personally love all the Fuente Maduro wrappers over the Padrons. Don't get me wrong, I love Padron too. ;)

Talk about digging from the dead! Funny thing is I looked at this thread because it was her birthday. Padron maddies kill the naturals...at least in the thousand series.
