Major Newbie Mistake

I have heard about the PP idiots before here and on other boards. I have never used PP before and probably never will. That is one thing that keep me away from E-Bay.

However, I have two simple questions:

1. Why does PP have this policy?

2. Why did the posts naming PP need to be edited?

???

1. They say the policy is to keep minors from purchasing tobacco. I say BS on that. They're anti-tobacco people, that's all there is to it.

2. PP has been suspected of scanning the internet for mentions of their name in order to police those that use their service. I don't know if it has ever been conclusively proven that they do this, but it has been reported by several. Of course we all know how the "telephone game" works.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like they a the PayNazis and if they don't like the products you buy then they will shut your account down. Well I say Fvck'em!

However, there is another side to this. They are a business. As a business I beleive they should be allowed to choose who they want as customers. If they want certain customers and want to allow them to do something while patronizing their business then that should be OK. If certain other customers are not pleased by this practice then they will make their objections known and/or stop patronizing that business. If there are enough objections and lost business the business owner will either change the policy or possibly go out of business. Either way the business owner (not some other entity) should be able to decide how he/she/they want to run the business.

Now re-read that argument above and insert bars/resutrants etc. where you see business or business owner and apply it to what we have been saying regarding smoking in public places (especially here in CA). Same argument. So I guess if PP wants to have this policy they should be allowed to. They make money on the amount of transactions they do. If this policy costs them money then so be it. If it costs them enough they will change of go out of business.

Heh leave it to poo pal. Funny thing is its technically illegal to do that even if it’s in there Terms and conditions. This is why there getting sued constantly. The gov made them register as a legal financial institution just like a bank (that’s why they pay interest, they have too). Because of this there not really allowed to discriminate on purchases but they do. I believe they made twice as much money from this practice then the lost in law suits last year so they continue too to do it.

So I guess if PP wants to have this policy they should be allowed to.

Absolutely.

Still don't understand why anybody who smokes or owns guns would avail himself of their business...

They do, they even sent me a link to my own posting and asked that I remove it. They have since shut down my account and I will not go back.

Yep, they sure as hell do. Not sure how I know this :whistling:

I've been told by PP that they have investigators who look into matters such as what is being described in this thread. They don't screw around. What I don't get though is why they are so determined to prevent such activity that is only bringing them money. I can understand if something is right in their face, but the digging that they do to investigate cases where their policy is being violated doesn't quite make sense to me. At any rate, the hell with them.

The question that I pose is what other means would one use besides PP to send funds electronically? This seems to be the issue that prevents more people from boycotting them. There certainly are other ways of exchanging money, but to my knowledge, nothing as easy as PP (in large part because so many people have accounts with them).

There's always WU. But PP much safer than WU. With WU, once its gone, its gone. With PP, you at least have a chance to get it back if you've been scammed. Now, I am by no means trying to glorify PP because I've been screwed by them (or more the specifically the people that use it) but it is hassle free if you know what your doing, who you're doing it with and if you can make it through the "loopholes".

I totally agree with you here. That's why I don't use them.

Well screw them, then!

I can't believe they would waste the resources to do such things. I wonder if they go after the guys trading their kiddie porn through their service with the same gusto? What a waste! If I were a shareholder (do they have shareholders?) I'd be all up someone's ass for this waste of money!

My P&yP&l account has been locked since January due to recieving two $1000+ payments from the same person, in 24 hours. The person was my brother that was paying me for some work I did for him, and since we both used P&yP&l it seemed like an easy option. They held the money from both our accounts, locked the accounts, along with any accounts linked in any way to ours (same address, bank #s, CCs, etc). To this day they still have around ~$2900 dollars of ours between the transaction between us they locked as well as the balances in the accounts. We have been doing everything they ask us to do to verify the account information, yet still won't unlock them.

If I were a shareholder (do they have shareholders?)

They're a subsidiary of Ebay.

Yep, I think eBay bought them a while back. I think they're a terrible company and I avoid them whenever possible. Unfortunately if you SELL things on eBay, you almost have to use them and it's good for sellers. I've sold very few items on eBay over the years, most recently I had extra Dropkick Murphy tickets and everyone paid using them.
