What an incredible man, I'm sorry to hear this. The man was truly inspiring.

Telling commentary from some of his troops. Quiet, unannounced funeral. Truly a man who inspired.

Spent a week last year roaming Normandy and the surrounding area. Spent a weekend this year freezing in Bastogne. The hardship this man and so many others endured while fighting in Europe as very young men just can't be overstated.

Godspeed, Major. Thank you for your service. We are in your debt.

After seeing Band of Brothers, I wanted to read anything I could about this man. Definitely one of my heroes. Few men are born to lead like he was. I'm sure he saved many a mans life with the abilities he possessed.

RIP, what a truly great man. Humble beyond measure, we were fortunate to hear of his mettle.
 
RIP Major Winters. I'm a big fan of the series and the books and unfortunately knew this day would come sometime soon. Fewer and fewer of them left every day. :(
 
Sad day. He was somebody I would have loved to shake hands with and thank for his service.
 
A true hero no doubt.

I have used many of his examples in Officer Professional Development sessions with my younger officers.

He will be missed, but his leadership examples will live on.

His ability to lead, and lead succesfully, without raising his voice and/or cursing is something I try to emulate on a daily basis. Profanity screams unprofessionalism during a discussion so I try to eliminate it from coversation.

You're sorely missed Major Winters...
 
Very sorry to hear of his passing. We are losing too many of those great men and women from that generation far to fast these days.

Sad day, as we lose so many of the heroes of that era.

His interview brought a tear to my eye when he said.......I treasure my remark to my grandson who asked, "Grandpa, were you a hero in the war?" Grandpa said, "No... but I served in a company of heroes". -Dick WInters

Well said. He was a rare specimen of what men truly can be made of. Hero is the best word to describe him, but it's a word he wouldn't care for when used in that context, which only goes to show the level of humility he exhibited.
 
I can't add much to what others have already stated. But I too have read many of the books about him and seen the BoB movies. He was truly an inspiration. I wish there were more men like him in today's society.
