When I went to Corps School, a long time ago, I remember our Company Nurse, as salty a LCDR who ever wore the uniform, telling us that in every war, giant strides are made in the practice of medicine. Our claim to fame was the triple amputee. We have now been outdone. A Marine has returned to duty with a prosthetic leg and not behind a desk, but to combat. This was unthinkable when I served.

Good for him! It's always rewarding to see someone overcome the challenges of their life instead of backing down.

awesome there was a british fighter pilot in ww2 that had a prosthetic leg. he was shot down and captured the germans respected him so much they let the brits drop a new leg in for him. i cant think of his name right now but he was an ace.

You're thinking of Sir Douglas Bader, one of Britain's top aces with 22 kills. He was a top rugby and cricket player as well prior to losing both legs in a crash. Ironically, not having legs was an advantage for Bader; he could pull high-g turns in a dogfight without passing out.

What a soldier, he definately loves what he does and his country, and he's only 22 years old. God bless!

Soldier? I hope AVB doesn't see that.
Upon further review, I have found that the Navy, Air Force and Army combined, have sent 62 amputees back to duty. None to the infantry, though. The Marine Corps states that they don't have that information. Some things never change.
