I remember as a kid my Dad (Vietnam Vet x3) was very active in the locat VFW....they did a lot for the community....baseball teams, cubs scouts, etc.
As a younger man (Desert Storm Vet) I joined VFW but seemed to be out of place hanging out with older vets. Not sure why but it's probably like anything else....dependent on the local group.
Back in TX near Ft. Hood there a many VFW Posts. I'm definately going to check them out; however from what I've seen they just play a lot of BINGO.
Anyway, like any other organization you belong to, you have to be a participating member. That's what makes them thrive and appealing to other.
I see local VFWs at the PX a lot patting Soldiers on the back telling the great job they're doing and handing out pamplets. Not sure if they attract members or not. But I'll try it and see.
