Well I ordered a couple boxes of cigars a couple of weeks ago and found green mold on one I gave out the other day. I was a little scared so I decided to go through the rest of the box and found about half of them had mold on them to some degree. First, I want to make sure that this is mold. I don't knwo what else it would be, but I don't want to make a big deal out of something that isn't. I know I can still smoke them if it is not too bad, but I also want to know if it will spread to my other cigars.

Also, do you guys think the vendor should make things right or is it really not that big of a deal. So should I just put the smokes with mold in a ziploc and smoke them or should I get them out of my cooler and ask the vendor to replace them? Thanks in advance for your advice. Here is a pic that is a little hard to make out. Sorry it's just a phone.

When you received these "a couple of weeks ago" did you see any mold when you inspected the cigars? It's always easier to make a strong case for return/replacement when you report problems at the time of receipt. If the vendor is one you have a business history with and that has a strong return policy, they may well take it back. Almost all agricultural goods like these will have mold spores on them. The question is when did they see the proper conditions to germinate. If it was in the vendor's warehouse or in transit (as evidenced by the discovery of mold when you receive them), then a case for replacement is strong. If some period of time has passed, then the question in the vendor's mind will be whether conditions particular to your storage setup enabled the outbreak.

As to what it is, it's damn hard to tell anything from the picture. The mold I've seen has always been whitish, fuzzy and easily brushed off.

Yeah, it kind of looks like a taquito. Very difficult to see anything in the pic.

lol...yeah I guess the pic is pretty bad. You guys pretty much gave me the info I needed. Thanks for the help. I had only had the cigars a few days when I noticed the mold on them. They are cheaper cigars, hence the veiny appearance, but I ordered a lot of them to age for a while so I am dissapointed that I may have a case of mold. I will break into the rest of them and check it out. Thanks again guys.

What is the point of no return when talking about mold? O.K....so you brush it off and now you are good to go? What if after you brush it off there is still a stain on the wrapper. Is that safe to smoke? Will there be contamination of the rest of the stash if you put it back in the box? At what point do you abandon the smoke and chalk it up as a loss?
