More newbie porn

FYI, all of my 07 Boli's do not smoke well right now (They're all bigger rings: RC's, BBF's, and the RE's). They seemed okay for about the first 18 or so months after box date, and then they lost it. If MRN is to be believed, then it'll be another three and a half years before they smoke good again. Damn that "five years of rest, brings out the best" maxim :(. )

YMMV.

Great price on those Partagas. I havent seen them around for less then $240.00us. Thats even a better price then I have seen on my most recent European and Asian adventure.

The rest of my 2009 cigar budget has evaporated:

Partagas 8-9-8 Varnished - ABU NOV 08. These were picked up by a friend in Cuba from an all-inclusive resort (Caya Coco or something like that), so they've had a rough ride (never seen the inside of a humidor, etc.). I tried one ROTT and it had fairly muted flavours, with some hints of vanilla. However, I wasn't expecting much this early. The wrappers were a bit more rustic than I expected, but this could be from the shocks of unprotected transport and un-humidified storage. I put a Boveda pack into the box, and the box into a coolerdor, and will forget about these for a few years.

Bolivar Short Bolivar RE Asia-Pacific - TEB OCT 08. After b*tching to my tobacconist about the Boli Simones smoking like sh*t right now (relatively), he said that these Short Boli's were smoking great right now, and suggested that I should try them. ROTT, the Short Boli did taste pretty good and was complex - but, unfortunately, it also smoked hot and had way too easy draw. My guess is this was because there was not a lot of tobacco in that particular cigar. I have pulled out another for smoking and a full review in April, and am witholding judgement on the Short Bolivar until then.

Finally, after much whining from customers, including myself, Por Larrañaga Petit Coronas are finally being officially imported into Canada. This EMA SEP 08 cab of 50 was from the first shipment brought in. I like these a lot  and they're going into rotation. A PL Panatela at breakfast, a PL Petit Corona at lunch, a PL Montecarlo before supper, and a Padron Magnum Maduro after supper, will make for a nice mild/medium-bodied non-super-premium cigar day, methinks.

Nice purchase, those Quintero's are yummy, the Bolivars will be great smokes and the Partagas...well, I like them already.

Do yourself a big favor and don't touch the Salomones for at least a year. They are very muted and need time to develop. The Simones are smoking great now, but will peak in 10 years being on the lighter side of full bodied.

So the real moral of the story here is that if I get the nod to work on the Olympics in Vancouver I'll be making a road trip eh?
