Well October 12th is a very big day for me.

1. My oldest will turn 21 on that day. He is currently attending PITT. We are planning a nice dinner on Saturday topped off with 2 special Robusto's I have been aging for this event.

2. The 12th is also my 25th anniversary at my place of employment. For that occasion I am taking one of my last vacation days of the year ( You would think after 25 years they would give me the day off :sign: )

On my day off, my golfing buddies have set up a golf date to play Oakmont Country Club - Host of the 2007 U.S. Open - In my early years, I caddied at Oakmont during high school. In 1978 I actually caddied in the PGA at Oakmont. I caddied for a club pro by the name of Buddy Whitten from Michigan. It was truly an event I will never forget. My buddies are picking up the tab for the golf and caddy (approx $ 300.00) :whistling:.

I played Oakmont approx. 7 years ago, and had 84 with 42 putts. The greens there are just brutal. Unfortunately the weather for Thursday looks shitty, rain, wind and 50*. We will play rain or shine, so I will be prepared for the bad weather.

Oh well, just thought I would share with you all what October 12th means to me.

Hey, congratulations are in order "all round".

You have done something most golfers will never do, good memories I'm sure.

Enjoy your day!

PM your boss's email address so I can tell the focker you deserve at least a week off and a gold Rolex for 25 years

Congrats cookie, sounds like you have earned it. If possible (rain and all) smoke the best.

Cookie, congrats and enjoy! A day of rainy golf in the 50's beats a day at work any time!

Better be careful you are starting to show your age. 25 years on the same job? Well you have me beat by 4 1/2 years on that one, but I started young. I hope the greens treat you a little better this time. Enjoy your day off.

Congratulations Bud!! I hope you had a great day and the smokes were what you were hoping! Let us know how your golf game went.

Congrats!!! Can't think of a better day then golf with a caddie and some great cigars. I hope today is going as planned. I just checked weather.com and its 68 deg / Fair. I am sure you are having a blast! :)

Edit: Damnit, that is the one in Denton... it's 43 feels like 35 in PA. I betcha you are still having a great time!!!

Well - Just got back from Oakmont CC.

The weather started with 45* and wind. By the 7th hole, there were snow flurries in the air. The temps dropped to around 38*, and the wind was between 20 to 30 mph. It was really cold. But when you are playing a top 10 course in the world you don't complain.

Well - the course was in absolutly perfect condition. The greens were running at 12 on the stemp meter. VERY fast. Needless to say, the conditions were very difficult.

Bottom line - I had 94, with 42 putts.

The highlight of the day was on hole # 15. 15 is rated as one of the top 18 holes in the country. I hit a very good drive, then a 4 iron to about 20 feet and made the putt. A very good birdie. Any birdie at Oakmont is a good one. The greens are just so hard. Unless you are there, it is hard to put into words.

It will be interesting to see how the pro's do this year at the US Open.

It was a great day even though the weather did not cooperate.

The guy that was our host said he would invite us again next year on a better weather day.
