I have a season pass at our local concert amiptheater here in Columbus, Ohio, so I try to make it to most of the shows, regardless of who the performer is. Last night, I had quite an experience, as it was the "Roc the Mic Tour", featuring a bunch of rap artists that I knew absolutely nothing about. 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Snoop Doggy Dogg (who I do remember a little fro ), Bone Crusher, and a few others.

I really feel old, even though I am really not at all. I also felt EXTREMELY out of place last night, as this was the major show of the summer for rap fans, and every rap fan from the area was there, even if they didn't have a ticket and just listened and sang along in the parking lot. And trust me, everyone knew every "lyric" to every song (I really hate to call rap words lyrics).

I did have a good time, if nothing else just by watching all the people and how much they got into the show. That is not to say that I would recommend the concert to very many people.

Anyway, just a word about my experience last night.

...trying to get the pounding of the bass out of my head...

I have a big concert week coming up. Starting next Wednesday (known around Maison de Mizell as coolness day) I'm going to see Elvis Costello, then Jackson Browne and Keb Mo at Red Rocks on Friday, then Dave Matthews Band (4th row seats..woooo) at Pepsi Center.

Actually, some of those rap bands were supposed to be here, like Busta Rhymes, and Fabulous was here for the show. There was pretty much no point in the show that I could have told you who was on stage, except for Snoop Doggy Dogg, because I remember him from 10 years ago.

I am really into classic rock and country shows, so this wasn't really a show for me, but I still had a good time.

Yea, I know what you mean about the rappers. I don't mind most of it as long as its on TV and not talkin about drugs and shooting all the time (mtv just blanks out all those parts). Some is OK even. .50 cent's in da club is kind of catchy, catchy enough to make it onto a movie soundtrack. The teens at the youth ranch I work at are really into it all the time though. Reciting the lyrics all the time all day long. They like the rap.

The concert Im bumed about missing because I live right smack in the middle of nowhere is Lala Palooza. Its got a bunch of good ones this year like Audioslave, Janes Addiction, Mudvane, and some other good ones I really should be able to remember at the moment but cant. Livin in the sticks really sucks some times.

Actually, Lollapoolzzaaa (how the hell do you spell that anyway?) is tomorrow here in Columbus, and I am probably at least going to see Jane's Addiction, if not a few more bands. I work until 7:00 p.m. tomorrow, which is well after the show starts, so the late evening is the best I could do.

When is the next Jerry Vale concert? (Why do I get this feelling that a majority of the members here won't know who the hell Jerry Vale is!) :D :D :D :D

Last of the Italian crooners from the 50's, similar to Dean Martin.
