My Rocky Patel journey

One of the first cigars I smoked was a vintage 1992, it was one of the short little smokes and I really enjoyed it. I know everyone has their own opinions on RP, some good, some bad. I read an article on him in one of the magazines and while I'm sure he's not all that and a bag of chips I was intrigued by the shear number of blends he keeps coming out with. I certainly can't keep up so feel free to post ones I haven't listed so I can keep an eye out for them.

Anyway here's the short list of what I've tried so far.

- The Edge maduro, too full bodied for me when I tried it, still have one in the humi though.
- Vintage 1999, that was a great smoke IMO, got my first nic hit and it was awesome!
- Vintage 1990, good solid smoke, I enjoyed and smoked to the nub.
- Vintage 1992, same as 1990
- Honduran Classic, I received this from Whopper, great smoke again! Thanks my friend :thumbs:
- Sun Grown, again I really enjoyed this one!
- Connecticut, good smoke, got a deal on these at CI, my goto smoke when I don't want to think and just smoke.

In the humi to try:
- Edge Light
- Rosado
- Summer Collection
- Cuban Market Collection
- American Market Collection

Okay, so what have else is there so I can start making my list to take to the shops? Also tell me what you think and why. My tastes are growing and changing almost weekly at times. I'm really enjoying trying certain smokes every other month or so to see how my tastes have changed.

List to try:
- Fusions
- Sumatra
- Old World Reserve
- Decade
- Renaissance
- Corojo
- Autumn?
- vigilante?

The Fusion's are good smokes, imo. The regular blue ones, not the maduros. But there's two more for you to try. Nording is another. Check CigarsInternational, they have a couple of different RP smokes that you haven't mentioned.

I have not tried very many PR's but I do like the Edge maduro.

There are a few Edge that you do not have on your list, the Sumatra is one of my all time fav smokes
Old World Reserve
Decade
These are just a few that I see missing.


Head over to Famous Smoke shop and look at the list they have in the cigar brands.
Also look at Cigar International, and Holts.

The Edge Sumatra Torpedos are his best smoke, IMHO. I enjoy these more than the Decades (which I think are slightly over-rated). They are a bargain too, as I have a 100 chest that cost me $400.

Too bad these things are discontinued, and now, they are really hard to find. The Sumatra Toros seem to be in abundance out there though, but for some reason, they just don't taste the same. Even though, I believe they are the same ring guage, they just don't have the same qualities...and I've had quite a few.

If you can't get your hands on some torps, let me know. I'll make sure you get some.

Try the Decade! Vintage 1992 was also my first smoke and I got a box sampler of 20 to enjoy. Then my palate slowly has grown to enjoy fuller flavored cigars and the Decade was awesome! Very flavorful and complex toward the end.

I really enjoy the Rosados and Olde World Reserve Maduros. Imho both are distinctive smokes that are well worth trying. I've tried quite a few of the rest of the smokes listed, and at least to my green palate they all seem like yet another ok cigar.

He also makes the Cruz Real line for FSS. If you haven't tried these, PM me your addy. I have a bunch I got as freebies, and would be happy to send some your way.

I am a huge fan of the RP Decade, and would recommend that you pick up a couple of these sticks. The sun grown is another of my favorites, and the vintage 1999 is my go-to mild cigar.

I have the same take on RP's stuff. The only RP cigar I've enjoyed every time out is the Vintage 1992 Perfecto. I now keep at least a box of these on hand.

JL, I haven't seen the edge sumatra torps around. I'll be snooping around the local B&M's this week now! I haven't seen the Cruz Real line in the stores. I'll watch for those as well now. Wish I had time right now to light up!

Do a search on here for the "Sumatra" might take some digging but not too long ago there was a thread about where to get them online. I have not had the torp just the toro, and have a hard time believing that it not as sood as the Torpedo....because the Toro is a fantastic smoke.

I think I might have 1 Toro left in the umi, has about a year of age on it. Try your best, and if you can not find any, PM me, it is yours.

Now you have the Indian Tabac in the list! Welcome to the world of the obsessive I only have three cigars left before I complete my CAO quest. Warning there are a lot out there that pop up. One I can think of is CI said they have a counterfeit edge cigar made by RP just for them. ohh and the RP are good cigars and well they share my initials so that is cool to Good Luck Rp

For the Sumatra, you need to talk to BeyondtheBand. The boy swears by them, he holds them in higher regard than Opus.


And yes, Rocky Patel IS K's dad...creepy stuff. :0

I agree about the list, but it suited my needs.....

Also, sorry about the thread-jack.....RP also makes the Vigilante a super cheap smoke that IMHO is pretty OK. They were discontinued and you can pick them up real cheap at CI.
