Just found this forum last night. By far this is the best forum/website that I have discovered related to cigars. I am not new to cigars but have been an occasional smoker since 1995 and never heard of the "cigar pass". I look forward to eventually being involved in one.

I recently purchased a Humidor/bundle package from Thompsons (should have done more research first) and have been somewhat happy with the humidor. The problems that I have with its construction is how the Humidifier and Hygrometer were mounted. You can't expect to use a "non-invasive" type of glue to hold them in place like they did. The humidifier will fall, under it's own weight, and lay on your cigars and if anyone is like me (a cigar or two a week) when you discover this the cigars are pretty much ruined. Since purchasing this humidor, a mold has started growing on the tray. I pulled it out and checked the rest of the cigars and did not see any mold but can any one point me in the right direction to get rid of the mold without affecting the cedar tray?

Welcome to CP! You'll love it here :)

Just wipe off the mold with a little distilled water and your tray should be fine. Then switch to Climmax 65% to avoid any further problems.

I suggest making sure to dry out the tray thoroughly after wiping it down , as the Sheriff suggested, and lightly sanding the area with a low grit sandpaper too.

Welcome to the group.

Here's where to get your beads LINK

Nothing beats Vern's beads. IMO

Welcome!

PS- Stay away from Thompson's........... ;)
I 2nd that motion, all in favor say "aye." Motion passed unanimously :D

PSTAN, Brent gave you great advice with the beads too ;) If you decide to go with those, go with the 65% instead of the 70% because if you hang around here, you'll be smoking mostly Havanas before you know it :0 and IMO, they like 60-65% RH ;)

I have to ask everyone out there that is reading this. My personal experience with Thompsons has not been bad. I got good response when I placed my order and received it in a fair amount of time. I do however get tired of getting their catalogs all the time. They make my mouth water just looking at all the Arturo Fuente and H. Upmann that they advertise since I have had good luck with these brands. What is the deal with the "stay away" advice? My only complaint with them, as mentioned with my first posting, is the humidifier mounting method in the humidor I bought.

They mark stuff up quite a bit and my experience with them was not good when I first started smoking cigars.

To each his own, but I'm sure you can buy cigars cheaper at your local shop or at some other online retailers. :D

This is my look at it;

Thompson’s is like shopping at Wal-Mart for 10 years and then you discover the whole time Target was right around the corner. So you go to visit the Target and then you notice Macy's, Nordstrom, Dillard's, etc. are all right there too!

JMHO

Brent

edit: also I agree with leebo.

I will be leary of Thompson's now, but does anyone have any alternative online retailers that are worthy of mentioning. A trip to the local cigar store for me is about 3 hours round trip and that is something I can't load the family up and do as much as I used to.

10-4 on the local shop! Sorry, I assume everyone lives in a city or town that has one.

What a bummer.....

Well, let's see.........I like Famous Smoke Shop, they run sales on Fuentes sometimes. Cigarbid.com is an evil entity but you can get some decent deals on stuff, just set your high bid and let her rip!! Atlantic Cigar is one I've heard good things about.....

I don't order much any more. El Fumador is okay for the hard to find stuff like Opus, etc. A bit pricey though.

You can always find trades and stuff on here. Just get to people and I'm sure you be fine.
