Imagine a Canadian posting a picture of the American flag with a cross through it and a caption below it reading "Invade America".

Sheesh. Is this what the world is coming to? How about they come over and wipe my butt for me too to help prevent the transmission of fecal bacteria to my taco hand?

Wilkey
Yes, it is. It's on the horizon here in the U.S. It may not come in 5 years or even 10, but it's coming. The effort to eliminate risk from Western Society has been happening for years, and it will continue as long as citizens allow it to continue. The most popular method for eliminating that risk has been to further reduce liberty.

But then again, that's just "hysterical" and "chicken little" talk to a lot of people.

Lol..........nice reference
I thought you'd get a kick out of that. :)

I hope I'm not correct in my thinking to some degree. It sure would be nice if things didn't get any worse.

I also don't really see this as "political" per se. In my eyes its more of a cultural issue than anything else. I know it's all intertwined and all that, but realistically the nonsense is flying from all over the political spectrum. That's why I vote candidates instead of party.

And that's as political as I will get.

I sure hope you aren't right as well, but who knows. I agree this is not a political issue; rather it is a cultural shift towards forcing people to "live healthier." The reason why I am not really concerned is that these types of things happen in cycles and correct themselves eventually. People will get fed up with being pushed around and will stand up and say "Enough!" It's an "ebb and flow" of societal values imo and right now we are stuck in a cycle of health conscious fruitcakes.

I guess to be quid-pro-quo the flag would have to be a Texas flag and the caption below it would be "Invade Texas"...but I think that misses your point. If I understand correctly, you're pointing out that my comment and that image might be offensive to others.

I apologize to anyone whom I may have offended. I do not really believe that Texas or anyone else should invade Canada. It was a feeble attempt at humor.

Please do not take things too seriously.

Part of my working career included a brief hiatus working for a politician here in Ontario. One of the things that I learned during that time is that policy decisions are typically made after research and polling suggest the policy will have legs.

In this case ( and having some intimate knowledge of the current provincial government - i used to work for them) this particular law would have been born out of polling surveys. Likely, it sprang from a "parallel" survey on health care related issues. From there a few focus groups would have been part of the process followed by a Cabinet level decision (the group of Ministers plus the Premier of the province) and badda bing, you have this new piece of legislation coming down the pipes.

The short and sweet of it is that it was more or less flagged by the constituent (citizen at large) and acted upon by the pols.
