However, I'd lose the scrolled looking blanket thingee to the right. It is distracting and adds little, IMHO.

I agree, and maybe modify the hand as it looks like he is wearing a glove similar to that of mickey mouse.

The left does look great. I'd go with that for a new look. The red one is pretty much classic though.

Not knowing what you would use it for, I would pick the right, it just stands out more to me.

But knowing what you are going to use it for along with the embossing, the left just makes more sense.

Like them both, but the one on the LEFT stands out better, and is easier on the eyes. I prefer the LEFT logo.

Is it STRICTLY a choice between the two? If so, The left better fits your crtieria ( but lose the Mickey Mouse glove). Or can you find something in between. I played with the filters in Photoshop for a couple of seconds, maybe something along these lines?

The one on the right hurts to look at for too long and could be distracting when it's not supposed to be the focal point. The one on the left has a lot of subtle detail that is easier to absorb (it just looks better), plus it matches the business cards which I thought were awesome the first time I saw one (and still do).

No... that is way too abrasive. We're going for something understated and refined.

As for the mickey mouse gloves, he's actually supposed to be wearing metal arm bands (as Greek gods are want to do). Friggin media culture.
