Hopefully this is due to word of mouth. There's a ton of good people around here and maybe the word is spreading. Or, we could be at the beginning of the next cigar boom. Lord, please let that not be the case.

Thoughts?
NOOOO not another boom!

I am just getting back to smoking cigars regularly because they have dropped to reasonable prices again.

I moved from Ohio to TX near the end of the boom. At the time I was smoking La Stinka coronas because they were the best you could get for under $1.25 a stick. Then somehow CA gave the stick a 91 (can you imagine rating La Stinka '91?).

I go to a local tobacco shop and ask for a box expecting to pay around $35 with tax. My jaw about dropped when they rang up the box and asked me for $90. I asked if the cigar Tax in Texas was 200% and the clerk explained to me the cigar's recent positive rating.

Macanudo moved from Jamaica to DR at the beginning the boom under the pretense of a factory fire. I think it was just about profits from higher production at lower cost (which was wise from a businesses perspective I suppose), however I haven't liked them since.

Let us not forget how many previously good cigars became rediculously mild and flavorless; or at the least directed their resources to making their new mild lines to meet the demands of poser cigar smokers.

Lord, please let that not be the case.

The cigar boom was indeed horrible. All the horror stories mentioned so far are absolutly true, plus in addition, the quality of sticks went down as well. I was reading an article interviewing the CEO of the big company (can't remember there name right at the moment) that produces Montecristo and a bunch of other big brands. He said they had huge backorders that they just couldn't fill (especially with Montecristo) so they went with two production shifts a day to try to catch up. The problem is that cigar rolling isn't the quickest skill in the world to pick up. They would have good cigars from day shift and horrible cigars from evening shift all going onto the same pallets to be shipped out. He said he knew the boom was over after they started getting huge product returns. He seemed to feel just terrible about how they probably ruined cigar smoking for so many people who had never smoked before and now probably never would again because of the bad product produced. He seemed really broken up about it I'll tell you. Sure we made lots of money he said, but in the long run it hurt us more then it helped us. What a visionary huh?

Oh yea, I almost forgot............ I need some protection from those mean ole FOG's myself.
