Newbie Review #2

So for today's beer, I just blindly grabbed one from my started kit and went for it. This is my first Belgian Style Abbey Ale. As I pour this one into my glass it had a beautiful caramel color and settled with a light tan, thick head. The head dissipated very quickly though. Once in the glass it began to look more of a shade of dark cranberry but it may have been due to the lighting in the room.

Another "wow" at first taste. This beer has a slight bitterness that I didn't taste in the first beer. Once pass the bitterness I taste a slight sweetness, maybe a hit of cherry or some other sweet fruit...apricot maybe but not over powering. Again crisp and clean but a mild bitter after taste. I wouldn't characterize this as a sweet beer by any stretch but some sweet notes to add to the character. Definitely a keeper for me.

You'll find that beers brewed with Belgian yeast strains tend to have a fruity characteristic to them often classified as "bananas" or "bubble gum". It seems like you've experienced that but were dancing around the description. Keep going, you're doing great!
