The wife and I are spending the weekend at a family reunion at some state park in TN. There will be swimming, golf, and lots of food. Unfortunately, I have to put the cigars on hold while we're there though. Nobody in my family smokes, and I just couldn't do it in front of my grandmother. Oh well...

How the hell can I play golf without a cigar???

Sounds like a fun time anyway eric. i am sure you can sneak away at some point in the middle of the night and spark one up, just bring a short story so you won't be gone too long! Have fun, hope all is well with you, the misses and junior. Take care bro! Rob

I'd bring the smokes anyway...There MAY be another family member or two who wants to smoke as much as you and could help you break the ice with G'ma.

Or, just hit your ball in the woods and take a long time finding it. :whistling:

When I end up in those situations, I just try to be discreet, and "partake" when the smoke won't offend anyone. But I don't hide the fact that I smoke cigars - hey, that's part of who I am. Family just has to accept it. Most of them have habits or other idiosyncracies worse than mine anyway!

Consider it a test of your constitution.

And on the plus side, the first one you have when you get back will be all that much better!

Or ... you could bring a bunch and tell people that you thought it would be fun for all the guys to try them. That way grannie will have a bunch of uguys smokin up.

...even around grandma, I'd think you could "get away" with a smoke, since it is FATHER'S DAY....right? I'd not have smoked at my grandma's house, but out in a park I'd think it would be a very different deal. Hey, it is a family gathering, but I'm known as the "black sheep" of our bunch anyway, so it's hard to wreck my reputation....

My F.D. weekend will be a gun show with my two boys in the AM, lunch, and then one of a couple of 01 box code ISOM's I've been saving for self indulgant occasions such as this one -

At the last family get together we had before my grandmother passed away earlier this year, my bother, my son and I lit up cigars after eating. My grandmother who was 92 saw us smoking and walked up to us, sat down next to me, took a big breath, turned to me and said, "That's a great smelling cigar you have Bill!"

She stayed right there talking with us about her grandfather who was never without a cigar his mouth and how everytime she smells a cigar it reminds her of him.

That is one of the many memories I will always have of my grandmother, a grand lady.
