So my girlfriend and I were sitting in the lounge at the Belagio smoking some Bolivar's. We were there for about 15 minutes or so, enjoying our nice smoke and drinks. All of sudden this man, about 60 years old or so, came over and sat down near us with his wife and another couple. I noticed he had a cigar in hand, which caught my attention. I glanced over at him, and I saw him stick the entire stogie down his throat and pull it back out. He did this a few times. God knows what the hell he was doing...besides giving it a blowjob. Anyway, after he licked the cigar, he tried lighting it with casino paper matches. He tried lighting it, and after about 40 seconds it went out. He wasn't able to get the entire foot lit. So we continued to watch, and he tried lighting it again. Went out after about 15 seconds (never got it lit). After the third time of unsuccessful light, I felt bad for the guy and decided to offer him my high quality cigar lighter (torch). He looked at me like I was an alien, and rudely said, "No that's ok, I like to chew on them".

He totally blew me off, and all I was trying to do was give the guy a light, I felt bad for him. His wife was apologetic about his behavior. And the other couple seemed a bit embarrased. Me, being the true BOTL that I am, thought this would be a nice gesture. Anyway, guess I was wrong. There are some real freaks out there. By the time we left, his cigar looked like a chewed up sausage.

So that was my weekend... How was yours??? ???

I have seen the licking thing (always from older gentlemen), but always as a preface to smoking. I have had it explained to me as: "it keeps the flavor in" and "if the stick is a little dry - this lets it burn better". Never seen a full-on deep throat (in this context - ), or long-term chewing...

How'd you do at the tables? (I hit atlantic city for a quick foray on friday - but even the Borgata is the Bellagio's pathetic half-brother...)

Well as they say Rod, "To each his own" you made a thoughtful gesture and he just wanted to eat his cigar

I've seen a couple of people slobber up their cigars before lighting them. I dunno maybe I'm missing something but one time, I knew the guy wasn't a regular cigar smoker. I think he was just copying something he'd seen before.

So the guy tries to light it with flimsey matches, you offer him a light, and he says he likes to chew it? I don't get that..To each his own I guess. Hats off to ya for the gesture

Yep, had me wondering. So many pricks and asses out there, it's amazing. It's clear why no one goes out of their way anymore. I guess the guy was embarrased as he doesn't know how to smoke a cigar. He sure was trying hard to get it lit. Just another wierdo...

Yeah Rod, that's an old school cigar smoker......

I wouldn't worry too much, he's an old fart!

hey rod, come on now, whatever happened to the golden rule- "what happens in vegas, stays in..." wait, did you say that he handled that 'gar linda lovelace-style?! :0

nah, even though there are ungracious and unappreciative douche-bags out there, I say keep up the kind gestures, or the attempts at them, anyway.
I know I appreciate it when somebody goes out of their way to just be courteous, in whatever way.

Keep up the kind gestures... what goes around , comes around.

Do what I do.... check the bottom of your shoes for the crazy magnets before you go out. I seem to attract the nuts

That's a pretty good one  I've never heard before :D

One of the wealthiest guys in the town where I live doesn't smoke them, he just chews on them. If it were up to me and chewing was the option, I'd rather just get a can of skoal, but some people do like chewing them. It's weird

Rod:

Now, if you'd been smoking your pipe, you could have offered him a small
handfull of tobacco to chew on. I'd like to see him try to deep-throat that !

Actually, for extremely wet cigars, a burning log from the fireplace works
best. This is why Bill Clinton always had a fire burning in the Oval Office....

Absolutely weird Rod. To me, it sounds as if the guy had no clue what he was doing and that when he realized that you obviously knew what was going on with cigars, that he became upset and blew you off so fast defensively. A little humility does people good, it's a shame because the guy could've learned a lot about cigars if he just invited your opinion regarding lighting and things like that. Then again, I've heard of people chewing on the end of their cigars, which I have no idea why anyone would do such a thing, but why would people dress up in black outfit and have someone else beat them with whips and chains exclaiming: "I'm going to turn you out!, how much money did you make me fat boy!...how much!!." in order to get a thrill. :) :D

I saw this happen for the first time.

My wife and I were walking around doing some shopping. We were walking towards a B&M I frequent and we see an older man and wife sitting outside. My wife noticed it first and asked what the hell he was doing. I had never seen this before and was just as shocked as she was. Of course we both made a few "comments" about licking a cigar up and down

Anyway, weird to say the least :sign:

Way back when, it used to be common practice to wet down a cigar with saliva prior to lighting it.It was to prevent the wrapper from cracking. I used to do it, and sometimes catch myself, even to this day giving my cigar a BJ. Cigar storage has come a long way since the old days, and this practice has fallen out of favor.

Doc.

DD is right, also I’ve seen my grand father doing it, as a habit because back in the day when he was in the war allot of the time the guys had to roll there own cigarettes or cigars. Then when they would revisit them they would lick them again to make sure the wrapper stays firm. It was a habit for him.
