Whoever runs with this, I cooked up a web based matrix where folks can sign up. Guys, its here

Its in a test mode and isn't binding, so go see if you break it. Squares are all 0 - 0 until x and y number lineup has been drawn. Once your sticks have been received, the pool admin will mark you received and the square will be a faded green.

It would allow the user to select their own block(s). Very good idea!

I know the matrix is in test mode, but it needs one more row to make it 10 x 10.

Thanks for putting together a matrix Bruce. Bobby, if you are going to run with this that would be great as far as I'm concerned.I think we need someone who isn't participating to randomly assign the 0-9 numbers on each side once all the boxes picked. Any thoughts?

Thats correct. At work I write 0 - 9 on equal size pieces of paper. I have a co-worker pull the numbers out of a hat and fill in the columns and rows.

Assuming Wilkey is OK with meeting, we could handle this at that time.

No offense, Bobby, (I didn't realize how new to the board you are) but it may be better if someone with a bit more time in ran this. People may be reluctant to play otherwise. Unless someone can come up with a reasonable system where people can send sticks directly to the winners. If not, now that I have a better understanding of how this pool works and with the help of Bruces matrix, if there are no objections, I would be willing to run with it.

I put it out there for all to see. I admit, Bruce's matrix makes the hosting the pool a lot easier.

Assuming you wish to host, I'll take as many as five blocks.

OK then. I'll go ahead and host. I will get the rules together etc. and I will post when the matrix will be live for picking boxes. I have to go in for a sleep study tonight so I won't get to working on it 'till tomorrow sometime.

Generally your involvement would have included a review of the sticks and to have you pull numbers as an independent third party which would have been assigned to each of the ten rows and columns on Bruce's matrix.

I'd still get together for the smoke if you are interested!

If storage of the sticks is an issue, you could do it similar to how it works on Cigarpool.com or the poker nights. Everyone send sticks to the winners.

Something like this perhaps?

I kind of doubt there will be problems with the square sending to a designated winner. If Swifty opts for that that option, it shouldn't be hard to give each contributor one target to ship to. Of course, that changes the payout to 98, 48, and 48.

Swifty is busy with a sleep study tonight. From experience, by tomorrow morning, he is going to be tired, hungry, and in a nasty mood. However, he is stoked at the prospect of getting this off the ground. I'd watch the thread in the a.m. for the final rules. I expect he'll put up the dotted lines by this time tomorrow. At that point, I'll zero out the sign up sheet and we'll wave the green flag.

Here are the rules from last year - which sold out the sheet in just over 10 days.

200 Fuente Opus X or Anejo cigars

Final - 100 Opus X/Anejo cigars
3rd Quarter - 25 Opus X/Anejo cigars
Half - 50 Opus X/Anejo cigars
1st Quarter - 25 Opus X/Anejo cigars

The entry fee is 2 cigars per box......

Possible entrie fees per box are:

2 Opus X or
2 Anejo or
1 Opus X and 1 Anejo

I suspect that Swifty will opt for mailing direct from the contributor to the winners. It's his call as to the ante, though I'd vote for what works. $20 (approximation) is a small bet for the chance to win somewhere between $500 to $1000.

Great idea. I'd be down for one or two spots.

I noticed a couple of things we may want to consider:

1. First, regarding the system described below:

Everyone send sticks to the winners.

Something like this perhaps?

1st - Gets sticks from squares 1-10
2nd- 11-25
3rd- 26-35
Final- 35-100

With this set up, a participant who signs up for multiple squares may end up having to send to multiple winners. This could double or triple the mailing costs for that person (1 package = $4.05, 3 packages = $12.15). If we sent sticks directly to Swifty, perhaps we can each include $1.00 to offset the cost of him mailing out packages to the winners. To preclude anyone claiming that Swifty made a profit, any $$ left over after mailing could be sent to the final winner.

2. The second potential concern is with the sign up page. It's a great system (kudos, Bruce) and I love the idea, but would suggest that we require each person who signs to also PM the number of boxes he/she wants to Swifty. This will eliminate the possibility of anyone signing up another person without that person's knowledge/permission. For example, I signed CC86 up for several boxes on the page as a test. If this were real, I'm certain he'd have a problem with that. :whistling:

This was fun last year, even though I didn't win anything! One cigar per square would be my preference.

This pool has made the playoffs interesting, two gars per square were just right and the winners were some happy campers! :thumbs:
