Someone at work recommended this brand to me. Was wondering if anyone tried it and what they thought?

giving way to the dark side, I have The Dalmore "Cigar Malt" and Glenfiddich Special Reserve (not Solera) under my belt.

Thanks!

It is excellent, the color is beautiful, the smell is outstanding and the taste is nice and smooth without taking away from the scotch taste.
Highly recommended. Right now out of all of my bottles, I would rate it only behind Lagavulin 16yr.

Oh and in my opinion it is miles ahead of the Glenfiddich ;)

Thank you kindly sir for the recommendation! I didn't see it in AVB's repertoire, so I wanted to get an idea.

I really like Glenfiddich and you say Oban is better..... :)

Of course now this is just my opinion, however I'd be willing to bet that you will not be disappointed with the Oban
If you do pick it up, let me know how you feel about it ;)

A good standard highland dram which I'll get around to reviewing at some point. I like it but apparently not as much as Apathy78.

Ahh, so you have tried it, just haven't given it a formal review yet. I will be going to the State store tomorrow because I am out :( I did want to try the Glenfiddich Solera Reserve as well as this one, hmmm, don't know what I will come back with. All I do know is I will be coming back with a bottle of something under my arm. :)

edited for gramar and speling because I am huked on fonixed.

My luck, they were out of Oban :( So I picked up the Glenfiddich Solera Reserve. It will broken in tonite :)

Oban is next on the list......

This scotch stuff is addictive.

if you like any of the smoky scotches, likely you'll enjoy em all.

Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Laphroaig , Oban , and Caol Ila, and possibly some of the 'boutique' peated scotches, (Octomore, Peat Reek, Peat Monster) though Lagavulin passes for extreme by most folks standard..

While not arguing quality, it's at least EASIER to make a young, delicious, peated scotch.. and thereby keeping the price vaguely affordable.. plenty of good peated scotches under 100$.. not MANY sherried ones.. so.

If ya like smoky, ocean-y, whiff of salt spray kinda scotch.. do, please .. try em ALL..

and leave the mac alone. it's nasty. fruitcake. no smoke. you wouldn't like it. :whistling: :)

hehe, my scotch career is young. Grasshopper have much to learn and much to drink. :D

I'm about the Mac 18 like the last guy who moved to Florida.. now that i'm here, LOCK THE DOOR! .. :)

I wish I'd known about it 20 years ago, so I could have bought a few hundred spare bottles for my old age.

It's doubled in price in the last 3 years.. so you see why i'm not encouraging anyone to try it..

If you tried this one and liked it, give Talisker 10yr a try it’s pretty similar and in my opinion a bit better ;)
I was lucky enough to get my hands on a bottle over the weekend. :D

We gotta be drinking different bottles. Talisker is one of the most spicey scotches out there and Oban isn't even close to the spiciness of talsiker. I will agree that both are very good but in completely different ways.

Well I about finished both of these bottles and I still do think they are similar. My taste buds may not be as astute as yours, killed over the years and years of smoking and coffee. :p
The best thing I can do is keep drinking it until I can taste all the flavors…time to make a run to the liquor store

I broke down and added a bottle of this to the collection today. I sure hope it's as good as you all say it is!

Gonz, I will be surprised if you do not like it. It is a fantastic scotch. People can rave about Lagavulin all they want but for a few bucks less, Oban is the better drink.

Now let's not get carried away here. As I said earlier, they both are good but in completely different ways. They make all these different brands so one can have a choice as to what one likes better. Sorta like cigars...... ;)

...... Oban is the better drink.

I know, I know, Sorry AVB. I like Lagavulin and thought it was THE Scotch, until I had some Oban. As I was typing that response, I had someone look over my shoulder and tell me that I needed to include the fact that it was my opinion. So, now that I have been called out by the CP master of Scotch himself, I state that I personally prefer Oban but would never turn down a glass of Lagavulin.
